🇵🇱- Warsaw Poland. Aug 24th -🇺🇦
My last night in Europe was fittingly Ukraine’s Independence Day. While out exploring Warsaw, I happened upon a massive celebration/rally at Castle Square. So, I decided to document it.
Thousands of Ukrainian refugees and Polish supporters were there for over five hours, showing their support for a free Ukraine.
Even though I hadn’t been inside Ukraine for some time, it was beyond emotional. To think, that my minuscule efforts might have in some way helped in keeping ‘most of’ Ukraine independent
and free from Putin’s indiscriminate wrath.
Many of my volunteer friends are still at it: moving medical supplies and tactical gear to where it’s most needed, or, like two friends I went over with (Doc and Rat) are still serving in combat rescue units along the Eastern and Southern Fronts. They have new stories of survival from their hectic missions every week.
It's been heartwarming to witness the support that the world has shown towards Ukraine in both aid and refugee acceptance. Currently, 4 million refugees are scattered across Europe. 75,000 in the US.
Poland and the Polish people have done so much for their neighbor, who, they have a very ‘storied’ history with. It’s hard not to meet someone in Poland that hasn’t opened their doors to refugees, or has actually gone to Ukraine to bring supplies and/or rescue Ukrainians, or chipped in at whatever means they can….for instance, the mechanic that fixed up my SUV wouldn’t accept any $. For me, I had no plans or intentions to get as involved as I did: coordinating with volunteers, getting people places to stay in Ukraine upon their arrival, buying a car and using it to transport supplies, and acting as a coordinator between front-line medics and troops and various media outlets to get stories out. Once you step foot inside Ukraine, and if you have an eagerness to help, it will take you. 🌊
If you’re feeling lost or purpose-less in life, I recommend getting involved. It is something worth getting behind; for the betterment of humanity.

I had the insane opportunity to sit with Howard Zinn for a few minutes after he spoke at CU Boulder when I was in college, working with Amnesty International. I had so many questions for him, I just kinda froze, and mumbled off something like: “what do you think happened with 9-11 considering the geopolitical consequences?” He looked at me, laughed, gave me a hug, and responded “I don’t have a damn idea but I’d sure like to know.”

Phosphorescent is on tour right now. Such a beautiful step away from all of the stress of our lives and times and into cathartic sounds and songwriting. Go see them.
According to @cbretson “Mathew Houck is one of the best songwriters alive today.”

It’s just wild to think that I took these photos a week ago when today I was running in shorts and a t-shirt, in near 60 degree temps in town. Oh climate change. It’s just going to get more interesting.
Well, this is a post in honor of our one true powder day this season. 15 inches of the freshest and lightest fluff that any true powder hound could ask for (21 inches all together out of the 2-day storm). And, there was hardly anyone on the mountain to enjoy it. Not a bad way to peel the mind away from all the dismal political news. I’m stoked I got to take a break from teaching and take a couple of laps with Eric Thompson. By the end of the next day, it was pretty much all blown or skied off. The winds in the video/at the end of the day can attest to that. #skisantafe #skibueno #powderday

Of all the insane news from these past two weeks, this is by far the most gut wrenching to me. The ignorant, hypocritical, MAGA populist and Beetlejuice desecrator, Lauren Boebert, might be replacing Deb Haaland (a highly educated Native American) as the Secretary of the Interior. Boebert doesn’t even have a college degree!! She would open up Tribal Lands, Bears Ears, protected parts of Alaska, the Everglades …on and on, to oil and gas and mining. Resource extraction companies would reap some profit for about a decade and entire ecosystems would be destroyed for hundreds, thousands of years.

I’m finding that a lot of people are becoming complacent, succumbing to the notion that it might be impossible for the democrats to get back in the polls. That’s bullshit, whether it’s senile, geriatric Biden we’re voting for or a better replacement, remember: you’re not voting for just that person, you’re voting for the policies that they stand behind. We’re voting for women to have control over their own bodies. We’re voting for immigrant rights, minority rights, worker’s rights, affordable housing. We’re voting for the very ecosystems we depend on to live!!! To combat climate change!!! Don’t be complacent. Don’t get lazy. Don’t fall into this trap: ”oh both sides just represent corporate America anyway” bullshit (and yeah, they kinda do, but there are massive differences).

Do something. If you live in a swing state, please, please volunteer to get ppl registered.

A few Roadside Attractions of Northern New Mexico and Western Colorado during a zigzag of a loop last week.

Feels good to slowly allow myself to be inspired again. My truck got broken into last fall as I was moving to New Mexico. I got cleaned out. All cameras, lenses, laptop, drone, hard drives from the past few years. Passport. Guitar. Camping gear. Ski gear. They were kind enough to leave a couple of old shirts and some losing lottery tickets. It’s the guitar and all the ongoing projects on those hardrives that really hurt. Irreplaceable.
Back up your hard drives friends. I knew better.
