Our last scheduled release of ’26 is WSR077: “You Found Yourself Where You Found Yourself”, the 4th album from KOGUMAZA and their first new music in nearly a decade

Formed in Nottingham in 2009, their family tree plots a path through the UK underground, joining dots between Rattle, Hey Colossus, Bob Tilton, Wolves Of Greece, Haress, Grey Hairs and more

Heavy but not metal, atmospheric and textural but not ambient, they fell between worlds, carving out their own niche across 3 LPs on the Low Point and Lancashire & Somerset labels. Then, after the release of 2017’s sprawling double album “Fugues”, they quietly disappeared

When 2/3 of the band relocated to Shropshire in 2022 it should have signalled a full-stop. Instead, the trio were drawn together again when time would allow, seeking the immersion and meditative refuge the band always afforded them. Immediately, things were quieter and more introspective than before, mirroring how the band started out: 2 electric guitars and snare-less, tympani-style drums

Whereas previous albums came from studio experimentation, this time the band opted for a different approach. Recorded over a week at a remote mill in Wales, “YFYWYFY” feels as though the listener is sitting amongst the group as they play. It is intimate, open and engaging. Whereas much “psychedelic” music takes a theme and expands outwards in density/intensity, Kogumaza instead bury deeper and deeper, reducing an idea to a singular, beautiful core

Watch the video for the hypnotic “The Emperor And The Black Lion” (by @spalton ) on YouTube and stream the song in the usual places. The film perfectly captures the spaces conjured by the music and the contrasting feelings of safety and unease those environments create. The song features contributions from old friends Tianna Kennedy (cello) and Edd Hillier (kalimba)

Reminder that the best band in the land @hey_colossus are returning to the fine city at the end of the month.!

Their first visit to Norwich in over 20 years! They’ve been favourites of mine for years and this is an excellent chance to see the new lineup in @thehollowaynorwich basement as they start their tour including a few dates with @sliftrock in big venues around Europe.

Support from the awesome @savakband from Brooklyn, and yours truly.

It’s not one to be missed, which is why it’s sold out, but keep an eye out for tickets if they come up, and let us know if you have any spares we can redistribute.

Short reel highlighting some of my favourite sights from the last few days in Norway. Soundtrack is a field recording I made of the ambience inside the mausoleum of Emanuel Vigeland, an incredible place, might get it mastered and put it on Bandcamp.

Few shots from last night in Oslo, playing with the excellent @electricityoffical at the awesome @ukultur.oslo. Such a fun night and just a few doors down from the home of Black metal, Nesebleed records (previously Helvete - owned by Euronymous of Mayhem, before him and all his mates started murdering people, and each other.) slice of musical history right there. Of course had to pop in and pick up a record.

Last night was wicked, and this whole Breedling debut mission abroad has been a proper adventure and loads of fun. Thanks to everyone who’s played a part (especially @lukedrozd & @alekshaugen )or had a chat or whatever, been ace, really hope there’s more to come in 2027 :)

Final day in Norway, mostly spent in the company of the Vigeland brothers, who both seem completely balanced.

First, the sculptures of Gustav Vigeland, who set out to express the entire human experience through his work, from birth to death, and the relationships, struggles and emotions that define what it means to be human. Which SOMETIMES has to include getting naked and beating up loads of babies. It’s a cross we all have to bear.

From there I headed to his brother Emanuel Vigeland’s mausoleum. Nondescript on the outside but utterly incredible on the inside. A quiet, solemn space filled with an enormous 800-square-metre mural that he spent around 20 years painting, depicting a huge, writhing mass of sex, birth, death, skulls, intertwined bodies, the whole shebang. He eventually decided to turn the building into his own tomb - his remains are now stored in an egg above the door. Of course.

Genuinely amazing. One of the best and most atmospheric places I’ve ever been.

What a pair of talented and committed rarities. I blame the parents.

A suitably weird and wonderful way to end an amazing Nordic Breedling adventure.

Insane and epic scenery from the window of the famous Bergen-Oslo train (which I’m still on for another 2hrs ) no wonder it’s famous. I’ve been staring out the window the whole time at the incredible views as the train gradually makes it way up to the top of the mountains and back down. Truly beautiful.

Breedling first international show done 🤘. So chuffed. What an amazing evening at @bergen_kjott - what a special place. Great to share a stage with @pladaskelektrisk (happy birthday man!) Thanks to everyone who came down, such a cool bunch of folks and to @lukedrozd @bloxhamtapes and @evarowson for facilitating and hosting. Special shout out to @haliemusic__ for these excellent pics. Little stroll around #bergen before tonight’s gig. Beautiful city. Of course I heading straight to check out The Heksestein memorial to murdered witches, and Galgebakken where all executions used to happen, lovely views over the Fjord as your last breath was choked out of you, so that’s something.
