Some spring and summer highlights. Beautiful people in beautiful places. Many bikes. A year of many changes. by @spannersaurus
Not posted in a while. Life has been full and busy and weird. Here's a nice moment that entirely captures my dog's best and worst sides. Good thing she's my mum's favourite dog by @spannersaurus

In between adventures, we hit our 1 year Kendal-versary, just as we've been moving house again, only this time it's a bit more permanent! There's lots to miss about Manchester, but mostly it's the people and connections that made it special, and actually, they haven't gone away. Which is a relief. I have long suspected that I might not really be cut out for city life and this last year has confirmed it. I feel so much more at ease in my body with better access to natural spaces. My daily dog walks and my work commute genuinely bring me so much joy! The city isn't too far away when the bustle calls! There's still a ton to organise but we're making progress and I'm excited for this little space in the countryside that we get to call home, and keep building on what we're creating here. by @spannersaurus
And that's a wrap on the 2026 @fredwhittonchallenge ! I got round the course in 9hrs45 for those that are interested, but my goals were never particularly about the times. I'm no stranger to entering challenging bike events, but I was curious with this one to see if I could actually maintain enough consistency with training to put myself in a good enough spot to: A) Enjoy the event itself B) Still feel excited about riding post event. Moving house in the weeks before was not particularly helpful for this aim, however I'm really pleased to report that I had THE BEST day out yesterday!! Aside from a very cold start and a couple of early knee twinges, I'm super proud of this body and the things it can accomplish! I didn't cry up any climbs, I didn't even walk up any climbs! I cackled my way down a ton of gorgeous descents and screeched down some of the steeper sketchier ones. What an absolute privilege to be riding this bike, in these landscapes, on a day like yesterday. Gorgeous 😍 Once I'd topped Hardknott I knew I was on the home straight and was on cloud 9. Then Vicki made my day by appearing at the bottom of Blea Tarn and announcing she was gonna come ride to the end! We absolutely stormed the last 10 miles and I finished feeling strong and joyful! Such a gift 😁 When I got back on the bike to head to work this morning I was apprehensive, and then pleasantly surprised to feel comfortable and at ease, and find myself daydreaming about spending the day riding instead of going to work... (Maybe not quite so many hills tho) #youcandohardthings #fredwhittonchallenge #lakedistrict by @spannersaurus
3 sleeps to go! The @fredwhittonchallenge is coming up fast and the nerves are well and truly hitting. Reminder that there's a link in my bio if anyone still wants to donate to the @goodlawproject which is the project I'm supporting with my efforts (Pretty sure my manual totalizer is no longer accurate sorry πŸ˜…) Thanks so much to those who already donated! Making this post to remind myself that I have been putting in the miles and spending time on the bike and hoping that riding far on gravel with a titanium bike translates to riding fast up hills on a fancy carbon bike. Its an early start on Sunday, and tracking will be available for the curious who want to follow along https://live.opentracking.co.uk/fred26/ I will be rider number #1080 Like all long rides, I'm confident that I'll feel all the feelings, cry up at least one hill, and feel the elation of a few descents. Hoping that I've done enough training that on balance, the joy will outweigh the pain. #fredwhittonchallenge #cyclist #gooutside by @spannersaurus
What a day! Didn't imagine this level of sunshine when I set off in drizzle this morning. Also highly doubted that I would stick to my full route - I anticipated an early bailout. 100km loop round some of the best of the Lake District with 1880m of ascent. My knees have the evidence and are not happy, but the rest of me is! Great reminder of what is here right on our doorstep and the reasons that I need to stay fit and strong so I can get to these places in a day without relying on cars (which tend to spoil things). Many thanks once again owed to @vickstrength for the loan of a pretty @timecycling bike. Better late than never but this is pretty good training for the upcoming Fred Whitton. Reminder that I've got links in my bio if you fancy supporting a good cause for my suffering! #cumbria #lakedistrict #fredwhitton #spring #roadbike by @spannersaurus
Woweeee two beautiful evenings to be in Cumbria. Sunday evening stroll with visiting pals and Koda round Tarn Howes followed by an after work Monday night gravel bash taking the long way home. This is what we came here for! Feeling grateful for Spring light and the means to enjoy it. #spring #cumbria by @spannersaurus
Moody views from the weekend by @spannersaurus
Twilight gravel adventure! Could see this becoming a favourite evening loop now that there's just enough light. Tbh I could have done with just a smidge more but the creeping gloom kept it spicy while my dynamo headlamp kept me safe. After yesterday's deluge, a lot of the paths and bridleways were pretty flooded. But I escaped with nothing worse than one damp foot and very muddy trousers. Daylight makes the world feel so much more accessible! Missed this! #cumbria #kendal #gravelbike by @spannersaurus
Monday's dog walk. The first of the year that I didn't have a headtorch with me. I said a little while ago that the first after-work dog walk that didn't require a headtorch meant it was spring 🌼🌱 😁 by @spannersaurus
