I recently had a good reason to photograph these plates on a sunny day in Portland 🌈 a 10.5” and 8.5” porcelain plate set made for the most wonderful @honkifyoulovemyhair 🥂Still daydreaming of the @cafeolli sando in photo 3!

I’m definitely on the folkier side of things when it comes to glaze chemistry. Aka, why does chrome’s off-gassing make tin oxide blush in some instances (but not all)? I don’t know! But I will sometime soon 😉 in the mean time, I’ve been mesmerized by this glaze chemistry technique for years. Many thanks to @bentonight for shining a light in the darkness of my test glazes a few years ago.

LET’S DEWIE!! (Do it) 😉

Enjoy this glaze mixing video! I mix all of my glazes from scratch in my studio, mostly using recipes I’ve found in @john.britt1 ‘s Complete Guide for Mid Range Glazes. Safety is extremely important when working with raw materials. If you do pursue mixing your own glazes (which I highly encourage!) be sure to wear a properly fitted respirator and work in a space with good ventilation. I highly recommend following @ceramicmaterialsworkshop if you are interested in embarking on your own glaze mixing/chemistry journey! Enjoy 🌈 taken in Portland, Oregon by @sparnicht_

Hi friends, thank you SO much for showing up to @westcoastcraft this weekend! I really busted my ass in the studio to make work for this show, and your support+attendance made all of that time worth it. :''') It was great to meet new folks, see fellers I've met in the past, and connect with fellow artists. If you've bought my work over time, I see you, and that really means so much to me. For now, I'm back in the clay mines to wrap up the last few weeks of the holiday season. Hi friends! My beautiful dad, Dr. Bob Sparnicht, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5th, Easter. I still can’t believe he isn’t here, but I’m so grateful for the time that myself and my family shared with him before he departed to the great, heavenly beyond. He left us with many special moments on this day and the most miraculous sunset.

I have so many fond memories of my dad. As a horticulturalist, he created some of the most beautiful gardens I’ve ever seen, and the smell of nurseries will always bring me back to him and my childhood. His last advice to me was to never let anyone put me in a situation I don’t want to be in. So folks, take his word and don’t push me around! ;)

One of the greatest gifts I learned from him is how small acts of kindness can influence the experience of strangers and loved ones around us. I love to make others smile, and he greatly influenced this part of me.

If you have any memories of my dad from Temple City or elsewhere, please message me to let me know about them! I would love to hear from you, whether his impact was big or small. Thank you <3
