📢📢📢 Prof. Gascia Ouzounian’s latest book —The Trembling City: The Sonic and Atmospheric Violence of Vibrational Warfare— is out. Copies will arrive @uallibraries in the next week. If you’re not at CSM, you can order it through @mitpress . The Trembling City is a gripping account of cities that shudder under the vibrational force of occupation, siege, and war. From the persistent drone noise of Gaza to turbulent skies above Beirut, Gascia Ouzounian explores the insidious role of sound and vibration as instruments of violence that shape urban life. Introducing the concepts of vibrational warfare and atmospheric occupation, Ouzounian asks how cities themselves become instruments of war: amplifying sonic shock; conducting harmful energy through bodies, air, and buildings; and saturating everyday life with violence. Drawing on earwitness testimony and illicit sonic archives, The Trembling City reimagines cities as vibrational territories and listening as both a site of injury and a practice of endurance, survival, and critique. The book will launch on 8 November at Ibraaz, where the sonic investigation NGO Earshot is doing a Library-In-Residence. The launch is in conversation with writer, artist, and researcher Susan Schuppli, director of the Centre for Research Architecture. Tickets sold out fast, so watch this space for a public lecture on The Trembling City hosted by MA Cities next spring. Gascia is a long-term collaborator of the course, and we cannot wait to read her latest book and hear her talk about the work, which Gascia has conducted in dialogue with an enormous range of people — witnesses, survivors, researchers, humanitarians, and artists, some of whom hold all those identities at once. 📷: 1/ Trembling City book cover, MIT Press 2/ Energies of Collapse (2026) by @gloriajurado_ for SONCITIES 3/ Portrait of Professor Gascia Ouzounian by Mane Hovanissyan 4/ Dedication page shared by @gasciaouzounian and @soncities #sound #cities #violence #urban #listening by @spatial_csm

. . HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to @ualfoundation and @3ddafoundation For receiving a special mention at the annual UAL Knowledge Exchange Staff Awards. So wonderful to see this work getting recognised and given a chance to share it more widely. Special thanks to all our partners who have generously supported this work @forestryengland @bedgebury.pinetum @forestryenglandarts @ualawardingbody And off course a special thanks to all the participating students. The reason why we do this work. Into the Forest, a new Knowledge Exchange pilot project developed in partnership with Forestry England, UAL Awarding Body, CSM Forest School and the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. Taking place at Forestry England Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest and the UAL School of Pre-degree Studies, the project embeds climate-sensitive design into foundation education by bringing students into direct engagement with the forest environment. Through outdoor workshops led by UAL tutors and Forestry England Specialists, students connect environmental knowledge with creative practice, translating learning back into studio-based design work. Recognised by UAL Awarding Body as a pilot, the project demonstrates the value of cross-sector collaboration and offers a scalable model for climate-focused teaching across UAL-accredited Foundation courses nationally. by @spatial_csm

Join Central Saint Martins MA Narrative Environments for a special public lecture by Roberto Alonso Trillo and Marek Poliks, authors of Exocapitalism: Economies with Absolutely No Limits (2025) and The Superdark Factory: Towards the Full Automation of Software (2026). ABSOLUTELY NO LIMITS 🗓️ Wednesday 21 October 🕣 6.30–8PM 📍 LVMH Theatre, Central Saint Martins, King’s Cross, London Exocapitalism is all about lift – abstraction, dematerialization, deterritorialization. Capital, above all things, wants to move away from the land, from the soil, from physical dependencies, from hardware, from low-margin production, from deterministic flows, from people, from meat, from the present moment altogether. In this lecture, authors Roberto Alonso Trillo @trillo.roberto and Marek Poliks @dis.integrator explore the limits of the software economy, looking specifically at the short- and medium-term impacts of agentic AI on human lives and livelihoods. They dive into what they call ‘superdark’ production - autonomous swarms that pursue their own ends – and their implications – synthetic demand, agent-run economies, trophic governance, and the bizarre contortions of capitalism that appear when it is stripped down to first principles. Intro/moderation w/ Alex Quicho @amfq Booking essential: if you’d like to join us for the talk + Q&A, please reserve a place on Eventbrite! 🎟️ >>> LINK IN BIO >>> #exocapitalism #spatialpractices #narrativeenvironments @csm_news by @spatial_csm

. The new year kicked off with a discursive dinner hosted by our incoming year one cohort discussing the world of architectural practice titled: AS BUILD: Practice Seven Ways. Seven provocations on the role of the architect and the role of practice from multiple perspectives. So refreshing to have critical and generous minds in the building. Conviviality is an important part of how we learn together, build trust and hold a shared ground to create a collaborative culture. It was also wonderful to see how students (mostly) new to the building made it their own - literally moving in. A great big welcome to the cohort of 2026. Here we go…. A special thanks to @krish.nathaniel James Zatka Haas and @rhiannonwilliamss_ for being the arrival committee and discursive dinner behind the scenes brains by @spatial_csm
