Cathartic Resonance VA01 — Side B

Side B shifts into darker territory, exploring textured, dancefloor-focused deep techno with a deeper, more driving character.

Opening the second chapter of the compilation is Hex Threat from Cathartic Resonance co-founder SPCTR. Living up to its name, the cut conjures an ominous, ritualistic atmosphere through shadowy textures, driving percussion and an unmistakable sense of tension. Equal parts sinister and functional, it remains firmly rooted in the dancefloor while setting the tone for the darker side of the compilation.

Another contribution from the label’s founding trio follows as Mike Eye delivers Ground Floor, a timeless cut where rolling modulations and fluid percussion lock together with effortless precision. Controlled yet expansive, the arrangement gradually unfolds through subtle movement and carefully layered detail while remaining firmly geared towards the dancefloor. A natural extension of the label’s sonic identity, it balances depth and forward momentum in equal measure.

Established producer Joss returns to Cathartic Resonance with Torrent, following his standout four-track EP for the label. Defined by intricate production, evolving modulations and relentless rhythmic momentum, the track steadily builds intensity without sacrificing depth or detail. It marks the compilation’s shift towards its most driving moments.

Side B and the compilation draw to a close with Mornway’s Efef. Crisp, driving percussion meets moody atmospherics and refined sonic detail, creating a measured yet purposeful energy throughout. Patiently unfolding through subtle shifts and evolving layers, it provides a fitting conclusion to the compilation while feeling perfectly at home in the depths of a late-night dancefloor.

Lost & found.

A recording from 2023 that somehow slipped through the cracks. Most likely captured at @nocturn.za that year.

Label founders S.A.M, SPCTR and Mike Eye present the debut release on their newly launched imprint, Cathartic Resonance.

The three-track EP lays out the label’s vision with clarity and intent. Dense atmospheres and dynamic textures intertwine with scattered percussion and evolving modulations, shaping a sound that is both captivating and exploratory.

With a strong focus on sound design, the release creates a sense of deep immersion—an endless sonic architecture unfolding in unexpected ways, inviting listeners into the introspective core of the label’s ethos.

Co-Op returns to @modular_cape_town precinct on Friday September 11. For this special edition we welcome South African born, Leipzig based Josh Martin aka @chryslsm to the basement for an extended dose of his signature deep, dubbed out organic techno. A founder member of the @intrinsic_audio label, Chryslsm has had mixes featured on eminent platforms like Silent Season and Monument, and blesses the basement with a 3 hour set from early doors, giving him full range to shape the course of the evening. On closing duties is the fast-ascendant @mornway , co-owner of Safetapes and purveyor of deep, taut grooves that defy easy categorisation. Mornway closes up shop after resident @brunomorphet_music on the middle slot.

Over in the Lido bar the cdjs take second place to the turntables as three vinyl enthusiasts take over the booth for the night. Rising talent @adamzoio opens the floor ahead of @spctr__ returning for his second Co-Op stint, with the enigmatic and highly capable DJ Tad @tadhgdewar on closing duties.

Get involved, join the Co-Op. Reduced door advance tickets available via the link in our bio. taken in Mødular. by @spctr__
