The Kulin Nation, United. Introducing our NBL27 Indigenous Round uniform, the centrepiece of our Kulin Nation Project. For the first time in Australian sport, we've brought together five Indigenous artists, one from each of the five groups of the Kulin Nation, to share their own stories of Country through art. Representing the Wurundjeri, Boonwurrung, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wadawurrung peoples, five unique artworks have been brought together into one uniform, united under the KULIN wordmark. More than just a jersey, the Kulin Nation Project is a celebration of culture, connection and community, using the power of basketball to bring people together and amplify First Nations voices. We extend our sincere thanks to our project partners, Kinaway Chamber of Commerce and Trojan Tools, for their support in bringing this meaningful initiative to life. We'll proudly debut the uniform on Saturday 21 November at John Cain Arena as part of NBL27 Indigenous Round. Discover the artists, their stories and the meaning behind the uniform via melbourneutd.com.au/kulin. We look forward to sharing more on the project with our fans in the lead up to Indigenous Round. by @spdesigned

Yankee Yankee came home. In 1841, after years living and working within colonial society, he returned to his people. William Thomas struggled to understand the choice. Yankee Yankee’s answer was simple: “If I like it, what’s that to the white man?” He had seen both worlds. And he chose home. A powerful Boonwurrung story from the early days of Melbourne, and one that deserves to be remembered. Read the full story at Biik Bundjil. I was invited to speak at the opening of the Walk for Truth on Parliament steps tomorrow morning. After careful consideration, I’ve made the decision not to speak, For reasons out of my control the space does not feel culturally safe at this time. This isn’t about the event or the broader truth-telling journey. It’s about being honest about where things are at. Below is my truth, and the truth of the Boonwurrung. This is the speech I would’ve delivered. If anyone would like to speak further about this, I’m open to conversation. Boonwurrung Country & Family: Boonwurrung land extends from the Werribee River through Melbourne City, along the coast of Port Phillip Bay and Western Port, all the way to Wilsons Promontory. Apical ancestor Louisa Briggs was a Boonwurrung Matriarch who carried strength through one of the most violent periods of disruption on Country. She raised ten children, nine born to her and one embraced through adoption, each held within her care and responsibility. Through her biological children, her lineage continues today across large and interconnected Boonwurrung families, while the love and influence she extended through adoption remains part of her broader story of kinship. Her descendants are not only numerous; they are deeply woven into the cultural, artistic, educational and political fabric of Victoria and Australia. by @spdesigned
