Divers/fishermen in the greater Santa Barbara area down to Pt Dume as well as the Channel Islands pay careful attention. Deadlines for letters is MATCH 14, 2024. You need to organize yourselves and get in touch with your mayors and fishing charters in the affected areas to fight against these modifications and expanded NEW proposed MPAs. Closing these areas means they will never be reopened, it also means loss of revenue and tourism in the fishing community. You MUST make your voice heard. So Cal divers/fishermen support your brothers by writing letters, all of the info is at the @allwaters_org site. Remember, once they start this ball rolling it WILL hit So Cal next. by @spearingforum

Legend• @longbeachneptunes Remembering Don Paul Gaboury.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Long Beach Neptune Don Paul Gaboury. Don Paul has been a member of the Neptunes since 1982 and since then has been awarded title of King Neptune # 19, as well as becoming an honorary Life Member in 2022. In his lifetime, Don Paul logged well over 1000 hours of spearfishing and can be seen in Terry Maas and Laslo Pal’s documents “Blue Water Hunters”. He participated in and won many of our tournaments in his time as a member. Gone but not forgotten, we will miss you Don Paul! by @spearingforum

Repost from @conner_john_rhoads HIT AND RUN BOATER. On November 14th 2022 I got run over while diving in 40’ off the backside of Santa Cruz Island by this boat. They were going about 25 knots about 60-80 feet off my starboard side and caught my hose with their engine, and ripped me off the bottom to the surface in under 10 seconds. I had all of my dive flags up. I was in complete shock and managed to get some photos of the boat after I untangled my hose from their prop right next to my boat. They fled the scene after I pulled my phone out and asked for their info. I called it into the coast guard and they caught them but unfortunately the coast guard hasn’t been able to release the info to me and it’s been like pulling teeth to get any movement on it. I spent the night at the UCLA hyperbaric chamber after getting bent due to this accident. I’ve got thousands of dollars in medical bills that I can’t really afford, and am trying to get any info on this boat or owner to pay for my medical bills. Please share and reach out if you get any info. This one is too important not to share from @fearmyspear, I always preach diving with 2 knives whenever possible because you never know when you’ll need to get yourself out. This is also why I tell the new guys to take it slow and work your way up, any bigger fish can tangle you up and you should have a lot of time in the water before you start chasing them.
“He was fighting with my brother on the bottom and that’s when I realized he was stuck. He blacked out just as I cut the line and let out all his built up CO2. I was the only one with a knife on me. The tangle was so bad if I didn’t have my knife he would have drowned”! by @spearingforum
