Some people have expensive taste in wine. My boys? Imported WATER. From the South Pacific. Naturally. 😂

After receiving some rather passionate emails about our Fiji Water habit, I decided to investigate why we're drinking it in the first place.

Spoiler alert: It's NOT a miracle treatment for autism. It's WATER. Very expensive water.

And Fiji, if you're listening, I believe you've received enough of my money to at least send a Christmas card. 🎄

Oh, have I tried. 😂
Miracle drugs. Supplements. Protocols. Treatments that “help autism.”
Okay, but WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY HELP?
Because autism isn’t one thing, and autistic kids aren’t all the same. And if you put the words “miracle drug” and “autism” in the same headline, you better believe this mom is putting on her reading glasses and excavating the rabbit hole. 🐇

Special Needs Mom Sick Leave Policy:
There isn’t one. 😂
When both boys are sick, refuse medicine, and then Mom goes down too…apparently the treatment plan is DayQuil, 4,000 tissues, chicken nuggets and sheer determination.
And by Day Three, if Lysol and Vicks had a baby and that baby opened a spa, welcome to my house. 🤧

Mama Bear is DOWN. 🤧

The boys brought home a lovely little cold from school last week, because apparently sharing is caring.

The boys are too sick to go to school today. Too sick for iPads? Let’s not say something we can’t take back!!!
Meanwhile, I’m wandering around in a fog wearing pajamas with tissues falling out of every pocket, like I’ve personally kept Kleenex in business this quarter.
My voice currently sounds like I’ve been smoking unfiltered Camels since 1974, so there will be a slight delay in podcasting.

And we all know how this end,
they’ll feel better approximately 12 minutes from now, while I remain sick for three full days.

So today’s Special Needs Daily protocol is:

DayQuil.
Keep Tablets Charged.
Prayers.
Repeat.

We have to laugh even when we’re too tired, or too congested, to even smile. 🩵

Apparently, I wasn’t stressed enough. 😂

School emails. IEP advocacy. An oncology appointment looming. And two boys who depend on me in ways most people never see.

That’s caregiver life: we’re carrying things while we’re carrying other things.

And please don’t call me a superhero.

Superheroes get capes. I get laundry. 😂

Yesterday it was their favorite food. Today? Apparently, you’re trying to poison them.

If you’ve ever yelled, “BUT YOU ATE IT YESTERDAY!” Welcome to the wonderfully confusing world of autism and selective eating.

We’re talking safe foods, packaging changes, beige dinners, medicine battles, and why “they’ll eat when they’re hungry enough” doesn’t always work.

Plus, the story of my very Sicilian mother, her legendary Sunday gravy, and the jar of Rao’s she opened for her grandsons, even though it went against everything she believed in.

Sometimes love looks like meeting our kids where they are. And sometimes, love comes in a jar.

Ahhh, the holiday weekend,
Three glorious days to relax, recharge and enjoy some quality time. Sorry. I couldn’t even type that with a straight face!!
Episode 7: “The Holiday Weekend” is about the BBQs we may or may not attend, the Olympic-level supervision if we do, the feelings that creep in when we don’t, and somehow finding the funny in all of it!

Seeing Special Needs Daily playing in someone else’s car hit me differently.
I started this podcast hoping to bring a little laughter, insight, honesty and encouragement into the lives of special needs parents and caregivers, and somehow, you’re actually inviting me along for the ride.
Every listen. Every message. Every share. Every person who takes a few minutes out of an already very full life to hear what I have to say, please know how much it means to me.
Thank you for supporting this little podcast that started in my chaotic loft with two iPads blaring downstairs and a microphone that can apparently hear a squirrel sneeze three houses away.
