Post Dyno Inspection on this RB25DET swapped Nissan GTS-X R31. After the session, we found a few loose ground terminals on the fuel pump and gave the car a once over. Oil checked out clean, and overall everything looks solid. It just needs a little TLC here and there. Nothing major.
I’ve got to say, I absolutely love the way the R31 looks and drives. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one 👀🔥

We pulled Stillen SMZ number 37 out of an 18-year slumber to see what numbers it actually puts down on the rollers. Before strapping it down, we took every precaution: drained the fuel tank, refreshed the 31 year old pump, installed a new fuel pressure regulator, damper, fresh timing belt, and a set of 7-heat range plugs.

The rotting original exhaust was replaced with our 2.5-inch resonated X cat-back featuring single oval tips, leaving the rest of the car untuned and untouched, running the Jim Wolf calibration, boost jets at 13 pounds of boost on 91 octane, and factory pre-cats and midpipes.

On the dyno, it laid down right around 280 wheel horsepower and 312 foot pounds of torque with low 12 air fuel ratios. Factoring in standard drivetrain loss through the manual gearbox, that puts it right around 322 crank horsepower. Back in 1995, Stillen claimed 365 crank horsepower.

The car runs healthy and safe, and opening up the downpipes and mid-pipes down the line would easily wake the turbos up past 300 wheel without touching boost levels.
Huge thanks to Fred for trusting us with a rare piece of Z32 history. Fresh alignment, new tires, and fully dialed in whether Fred decides to keep and drive it or let it hit the auction block, it is ready for the road again.

591 WHP in a lightweight S30 chassis is pure terror.

Dialed in Caden’s RB 280Z, but not without some drama:

-Fixed injector sizing/spacers on the HKS rail
- Saved the exhaust valves after finding a loose cam gear slapping around mid-pull
-Maxed out the fuel pumps at ~27 lbs of boost

The verdict: 591 WHP / 456 lb-ft with massive gains under the curve (+104 lb-ft at 4,500 RPM). Powerband is night and day. What’s your dream engine swap for an S30z? taken in Simi Valley, California by @specialtyz

91 automatic Twin Turbo Z32 back on the rollers with fresh upgrades. Between dialing in custom billet auto internals and running Jim Wolf Gen 2 GTX Sport 700s, this setup picked up over 200+ whp on an untouched factory longblock and stock cams. We also rerouted the trans cooler with an integrated fan setup to the rear to keep heat soak completely away from the front-end stack.
Dyno numbers:
91 Pump: 450 WHP
E85 15 psi: 470 WHP
E85 20 psi: 526 WHP | 511 lb-ft WTQ

Honestly curious to hear what you guys think of the new Z now that they’ve been out for a bit. As most of you know, I went with the Nismo automatic for mine, and real talk, I’ve been loving it. The shifts are crisp, it puts the power down effortlessly, and it’s just quick enough.

Nothing truly prepares you for what these cars can do. My favorite part is watching people’s faces when the rollers start spinning, it stops everyone in their tracks. The conversation afterwards is always the best, and it almost always ends with the exact same line: “I had no idea a 300ZX could make that kind of power.”

A little 300ZX Twin Turbo dyno break-in ASMR.

Once the dyno session wraps, the real post-run inspection starts: cutting open the oil filter. Unrolling and inspecting the pleats under direct light is the ultimate reality check for a freshly assembled VG30DETT or new turbo setup. Catching trace bearing material, debris, or flake right now is what separates a minor teardown inspection from catastrophic engine failure. On a fresh build, this step is non-negotiable.
