Designing an engagement ring for Karen @moneywithoutmath meant capturing more than her “yes”—it meant honoring a whole love story, and the family within it. 💎✨

We partnered with Katie of @spectaclegems to custom cut a blue sapphire, transforming it into a bold, modern symbol of protection and commitment. Flush-set in the yellow gold, four yellow diamonds sparkle in celebration of the children Karen and her now-fiancé John bring together as a family.

Every aspect of this piece is intentional, from its striking, heroic silhouette to the symbolism of its gemstones. This is Karen and John’s love story, told through one custom-made engagement ring. 💍

I think is is my favorite transformation to date. I modified the “Lazy Oval” design by Robert Long. We did lose more weight than typical for a re-polish, but I knew a complete re-design would really benefit the stone and let the client know I want to do a full re-cut. The result was so worth it. 🧼Natural pale pink sapphire repair ⬅️⬅️⬅️ swipe to see before & after. 💖 This heirloom was in rough shape after being worn for many years. I decided to re-cut the sapphire in a simplified Portuguese design with 3 tiers on the pavilion instead of the traditional 4. The abrasions on the crown were fairly deep, so I had to lower the facet angles considerably to get clean material. It was well worth it, I can’t believe this is the same stone! Starting measurements 2.47cts & 7.49mm diameter, ending at 1.67cts & 7.19mm. This will be reset for the client in a very similar setting, my goal was to the width as close to the original as possible. #gemrepair #gemcutter #lapidarylife #sapphires #pinksapphire by @spectaclegems

Very sweet natural Idaho Rhodolite garnet Lozenge step cut 7x4mm. 2025 was definitely the year of the garnet for me. Natural garnets grow in dragon colors! 🐉: 🤎❤️🧡💚 & can be found in the US. Lab grown laser garnets offer stunning optical effects. They are a bit faster cutting than sapphires and are an underdog in my opinion, so of course I’m in love with them and I hope you will be too.
