Working from home while breastfeeding can look different for everyone. 💗

The first thing to consider: Who will be caring for your baby during the workday?

If your baby is home with you and nursing at the breast is going well, you may not need a pumping schedule at all. If nursing isn't an option while you're working, we recommend pumping every 2–3 hours to help maintain your milk supply.

A few other things that can make your workday easier:

✨ Block pumping breaks on your calendar and set alarms so they don't get lost in your schedule.
✨ Create a mobile pumping station with your pump, parts, storage bags, a small cooler, snacks and water.
✨ Keep extra accessories on hand and assemble your pump parts ahead of time to save time.
✨ Talk with your employer if a flexible or nontraditional schedule would help you balance work and breastfeeding.

And remember: working from home can still feel lonely. Take care of yourself, ask for help when you need it, and reach out for breastfeeding support.

Pumping for your NICU baby can come with a lot of emotions—and a lot of questions. 💗

If you're working to establish or maintain your milk supply while your baby is in the NICU, a few things may help:

🍼 Try skin-to-skin or Kangaroo Care whenever possible. Even if your baby isn't able to latch yet, skin-to-skin contact can support milk production and bonding.

🍼 When you can, pump at your baby's bedside. Your baby's sight, sound and smell can help trigger oxytocin and support milk flow. If you can't be with your baby, some parents find that listening to a recording of their baby's sounds can help.

🍼 Keep your pump parts in good working condition. We recommend replacing duckbill valves every 4 weeks if you're exclusively pumping and backflow protectors every 3 months.

🍼 In the early weeks, aim for 8–10 pumping sessions per day, including at least one overnight session.

🍼 And most importantly, don't be afraid to ask for support. IBCLCs, NICU nurses and peer support groups can all be valuable resources.

For many breastfeeding moms, pumping 2–4 oz (combined) per session is completely normal. Output can vary throughout the day, and a successful pumping session isn’t measured by how full your bottles look. 🍼

So if you’re pumping and thinking, “That’s it?!” — take a breath. Every drop is valuable, every ounce counts, and the milk you’re making is something to be proud of. 🫶
