In the 80s long before any computer graphics or paste program could have helped create this, my dad documented his families lineage through cut out photos which I have had in my possession since he passed away. This composite includes people as far back as my grandparents and great grandparents all the way up to when I was in my teens (look at the bottom.) It’s a fantastically done piece and one that I am so glad that I still have. Unfortunately I didn’t get to meet everyone in person because some of them had already passed away before I was born but having a piece like this is very special. #family #generations taken in Southern California by @spectroman71

When cancer enters your world lots of changes take place. One of those for me is trying to remove as many toxins from my environment as possible. Now if you know me well you know that I am somewhat of a slave to consumerism but only because it was comfortable for me to do. Now I need to be more careful with what I surround myself with and eliminate some products that are a little bit higher on the toxicity levels. Here’s a sampling. And I’m not saying that any of these are evil and need to be thrown away, I just need to step away from them for the time being.(Yes they are available if you’re nearby) but this post is also a love letter to all of the brands I have been using as far back as the 80s that are amazing and provide quality ingredients while also promoting success of small business and none of those products will leave or go anywhere. In some cases it’s just a matter of using an existing product in a new way. Perhaps Lamping or melting a candle instead of burning the actual flame (thanks Melanie for the inspiration) no Voluspa were harmed in the making of this video 😘 taken in Santa Ana, California by @spectroman71

One more example of how the retail store helps form a lineage of favorite collectibles. This Katerine‘s collection Duchess of doom doll was once displayed prominently in the front window of Deckers in Tustin where I fell in love with it. Not only does it look like the witch from Captain EO but it was created in such beautiful detail that I knew that I had to have it. Fast-forward multiple years later and I ended up with tons of Katherines pieces many of which are now gone but I did keep this one and it holds a place of honor in my puppet theater right now. #katherinescollection #dolls #collectibles taken in Santa Ana, California by @spectroman71

#collectibles #halloween #joannaparkerdesigns in light of Deckers recent reopening in Arizona I wanted to share a couple anecdotes with you that relate to what it means to be a collector and having stores like Deckers to support your hobbies. A few years ago we were in the store and we bought this Halloween piece which I believe was by Joanna Parker not particularly expensive, but very well-made and heavy resin and we both really liked it and were looking forward to adding it to our Halloween display. Little did I know at the time but a few years later I would be diagnosed with cancer. I was then forced to liquidate a large percentage of my collection to reduce the cost of my storage almost overnight. In each bin I had just a few seconds to pick something out that was meaningful to me to keep and I did look for this piece but could not immediately find it and assumed it got lost and sent to the estate sale pile. Imagine our surprise when a few weeks later we found it at the bottom of a Halloween bin untouched and still part of our collection. The joy we felt and the the subsequent tears that went along with it were real. It’s not always the actual items we collect but it’s the stories and the legacies attached to them that make them so special. Never forget all those stories you created for all of your customers over the years including us! taken in Santa Ana, California by @spectroman71
