It is a big day at SGHQ tomorrow 🙌

We’re welcoming over 30 professionals through the doors to be part of something we’re really proud of.

After the success of the Autism Understood website, we have taken it further by running 6-week courses for autistic young people focused on understanding autism - and it has been so nice to hear about the impact it has had on young people.

Here’s just a bit of what young people and families have told us:

💬 “I have been taught how to tell people my needs in a positive way so I will do that in the future”
💬 “I've made a couple of friends and I look at autistic people a little differently (in a good way).”
💬 “It’s improved at school with him talking more freely to staff about what is bothering him.”

Today, we’re taking that one step further and delivering a course for facilitators - so they can go out and run this in their own settings, reaching even more young people. We have some awesome people joining us and it is very exciting!

Attendees don't know yet, but they will get some freebies, and there are a couple we are particularly excited about:
📘 An 83-page Companion Book we’ve created to go alongside the course
📗 A copy of What Do You Love Most About Life? by @autisticnotweird featuring reflections from 150 autistic people (including Andy from SG!).

Chris' book is one of our favourite, and we can’t wait for everyone to receive it ❤️

If you’d like to hear about future opportunities like this, feel free to join our mailing list: https://www.spectrumgaming.net/training by @spectrum0gaming

💚 Big Give Day 4 Update: halfway through the appeal week and thanks to your support we're just £700 away from our overall target! 💚

We're so lucky that many times over year we've been reminded how friends and supporters can be found far and wide. And Big Give has been another incredible reminder of all the different forms support can take:

🌟 From businesses based in Manchester and Lauder in Scotland pledging support, to amazing individuals from York and all the way across the world in Canada hosting fundraisers not only to raise money but boost our profile to new audiences!

🌟 People have let us know they've donated to our appeal instead of sending Christmas cards, or donated via a workplace charity fund and even been inspired to donate after seeing that a friend, family member or colleague has donated.

(Support also looks like anyone who helped us fight the social media algorithms dislike of fundraising posts and shared our posts... 💪 !)

Seeing how people from all over the world get involved in whatever way they're able to because they see value in the need for autistic young people to access a community space where they feel accepted and understood, after years of struggling to find their place in the world is a truly amazing part of these types of appeals.

🌟 However you've been able to support our appeal you can be certain you've provided both motivation and inspiration to others 🌟

If you'd like to support us, the link to donate is in the comments below! by @spectrum0gaming

A huge thanks to all who have supported our Big Give appeal so far and helped us to raise £3442 in just one day!! We're so grateful for all the support received so far!

There's still plenty of funds left in our matched funded pot, meaning that donations made will still be DOUBLED! We're hoping to raise £5000 overall to support areas of our work that are unfunded but vital to support us in being a charity that is here for autistic young people for years to come!

We wanted to share a quick video to celebrate the powerful impact your donations to 2024's end of year appeal had on the lives of the young people in the SG community.

Over the past year, our digital youth workers have expanded the variety of online events they host for young people, making sure a broad range of interests are covered and staying responsive to activities that young people enjoy.

In our next online event spotlight, we’re highlighting our Trivia Bot online event, hosted by Bee!

During the event, young people can take part in fun quizzes on topics like logos, general knowledge, and flags. Different communication preferences are supported, with some joining via voice call and others through text chat.

Bee launched the event three months ago after noticing that a few young people regularly played Trivia Bot but often had to play alone because no one else was around to play with.
By creating a scheduled event based on young people’s interests, Bee has made sure there’s now a regular time where multiple people can play together, have fun, and connect with others - a boost to both their happiness and wellbeing!
