Say hi to Elleanna - our Autumn 2026 cover star! ✨💕

Elleanna is coming to @balticgateshead with her very first solo exhibition between 12 and 13 December. Her art, which mixes kitchy pop and communist messaging, is something you can’t help but observe.

In her interview with us, she goes into more detail on why she decided to join the Revolutionary Communist Party ( @revcomintern ), her influences, progression and why Marxist ideas offer a way forward, despite the heavy historical weight it carries.

Honestly, it’s been so hard keeping this a secret for so long, and I’m incredibly happy to say the first issue of Spectrum magazine is out now! 🪩✨💕

This little mag of mine is inspired by the early 2000s. I love everything about this era - the colours, the fashion, the style, the boldness, the cheekiness and the humour. There was an element of personality in everything, and this is my little effort to bring it back. 🥹

In this issue, I’m talking to some really cool people (naturally), starting with my cover star, Elleanna Chapman ( @elleannac ) who is exhibiting at @balticgateshead in December and whose art is so bold that you can’t help but feel drawn to it. Then there’s Laura Jackson, owner of @fridayvintagencl , who brings a splash of personality to the city.

There are fashion and beauty trends, goodies, reviews, prize draws, a peek into my love life (it’s quite disappointing), op-eds and expert columnists, if you get bored of reading my fluff. 🤭

And if this isn’t enough, I’m also chatting with The Bay Foodbank @the_bay_foodbank, a local food charity. It’s no secret that times are hard but by donating £1 from every issue sold, I’m hoping we can all make a small difference.

I guess the last thing left to say is thank you to everyone who has supported me through the creation of Spectrum magazine. I really hope you all love it. But if not, let me know - I love getting feedback.

Hi guys! I thought I’d re-introduce myself as Spectrum Magazine is growing bigger every day (what a blessing 🙈🥰).

So, hi, I’m @carolinedask ! After years of working as a journalist, I decided to start Spectrum Magazine in December 2024.

With many great lifestyle publications in the region, I wanted (and still do) Spectrum to be the publication for the people of the North East. This means that while Spectrum covers all the fluffy topics of lifestyle, it also talks about what’s currently going on and doesn’t shy away from deeper topics.

I want Spectrum to be full of personality - honest, sharp, and witty. I want it to be your best friend who you know would tell you how it is, with a bit of goofs & laughs along the way.

I’ve had a few comments over the years on the name: Spectrum. Why Spectrum? So here’s my answer: I see everything in life on a vast spectrum. Nothing is ever just black and white; life has its nuances, and Spectrum aims to showcase that.

So that’s Spectrum. And when it comes to me, I’m a big lover of reading, writing, iced coffee, sushi, journaling, and fashion!

I’m a grateful girl who notices every new follower and appreciates every tiny bit of support. So thank you for reading, thank you for being here and thank you for the love. It never goes unnoticed. 🥹💕✨

What happens when a poem is so powerful, it demands to be painted? ✨

This new exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery explores the relationship between poetry and Pre-Raphaelite art, from the very beginning of the movement. The artists painted pictures inspired by poems, and their art went on to inspire new poetry too.

And now you get to see it in person, how medieval legends and tales of modern life became vivid, richly detailed paintings, and see how the same poem could spark many different visual responses.

Don’t miss it - it’s even more impressive in person! ❤️

If you’re looking to get your cultural fix this October in the North East, may I suggest heading to the @hnck_gallery to see ‘Evening Walkthrough’ exhibition by a local artist @likessam ? 👀

He captures and emphasises the aesthetics of modern life with a sense of realism. Looking around, you’re bound to find a painting to connect with. Mine was Further Along for its colours, a sense of loneliness and urgency in the modern world with a touch of femininity. 🎀

Not to pretend like I know so much about art, but isn’t that the beauty of it? Everyone can interpret it through their own experiences.

The exhibition is completely free and certainly won’t disappoint. Don’t miss it!
