Finding a Speedmaster from 1975, my birth year, had been one of my goals ever since I started collecting vintage Moonwatches.
⠀
The difficult part was finding one with proper documentation. A 145.022-74 doesn't automatically mean 1975, and even very late examples of the preceding 145.022-71 could still be delivered that year. I wanted more than just a reference number and an estimated production date.
⠀
Then this early 145.022-74 came along, complete with her original purchase receipt and warranty card from Uhren Franz Huber in St. Ingbert, both dated August 21, 1975.
⠀
Exactly what I'd been looking for.
⠀
And the watch herself made the find even better. A beautiful step dial, an exceptionally sharp case, that wonderfully aged B2 bezel and an early 1171 bracelet.

She had spent many years in the collection of my watchmaker @marius.mang's father, who had acquired her directly from the original buyer's grandson. A big thank you to Marius for making this possible, and especially to his father for being willing to part with her.

First Omega in Space — Second Gen.

Quite a different look on my wrist today. Straight lugs and flat links, for a start. Here, though, it’s the dial that stands out: the sunlight picks up the blue and the sunburst brushing. 🚀

I still remember that New Year’s Eve. I bought my first two vintage Speedmasters that day, and this 3590.50 was one of them.

She’s been part of my vintage collection from the very beginning, and that makes her particularly special to me.

The ST1 has already had her moment here, so today it’s her sister’s turn.

My Speedy Tuesday 2 “Ultraman”. Still unmistakably a Moonwatch, but with that unmistakable Ultraman chronograph hand and just enough red accents to give her a character all her own.

My Omega Speedmaster Professional 145.012-67. My first proper vintage Calibre 321 — and one that came into my collection in a way I certainly hadn't expected.

Earlier this year, I discovered that the Speedy Tuesday 2 Ultraman I owned had originally belonged to @speedybirthyear. He'd bought her new in 2018, sold her later that year and regretted letting her go.

The funny thing was that I had somehow ended up with the very watch he'd once owned. And I really liked the idea of getting her back to him. Not just another Ultraman, but his Ultraman.

As it happened, he owned a beautiful early 145.012-67, a watch that immediately caught my attention. I'd been wanting a proper vintage Calibre 321 for some time, so we started talking about a possible trade.

One thing led to another, and we eventually met in person and exchanged the watches. His original Ultraman went back to him, and this lovely 145.012-67 came home with me.

And she's everything I hoped she would be. That wonderfully warm tritium dial, the DON bezel, the early chronograph seconds hand and the 1039/516 flat-link bracelet. Exactly the kind of details that made me fall in love with vintage Speedmasters in the first place.

I love the watch itself, but I also love knowing how she found her way into my collection. Sometimes the story really does add something.

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch 3861 Hesalite.
⠀
Among the current Moonwatches, this is still the one I keep coming back to — and the one that gets the most wrist time. Hesalite, solid caseback. And that bracelet — it just feels so right. And it always reminds me a little of the 1116.
