1956 TU Dresden Anechoic Chamber

This large anechoic chamber, which is also called “sound-proof room”, was completed in 1956. It is one of the largest rooms of its kind in Europe.

Its total volume is 2000 m3 with a free volume of about 1000 m3. It is 21 m length, 9 width and 5½ m in height.

The room is housed in a separate part of the building with a separate foundation from the rest of the Barkhausenbau. Thus, the penetration of external noise is virtually completely prevented.

In order to exclude background noise in the form of reflections, a sound-absorbing
lining in the form of 18000 wedge-shaped elements is fitted to all areas of the room, including the ceiling and the floor.

These wedges are made of sound-permeable fabric are 1.15 m long and have a base of 20cm x 20cm. They are stuffed with a total of 43 tons of glass wool. Over the wedges at the bottom stretches a braided web made of 9 km steel rope. At its edges you can see free glass wool bundles. by @spektra.spatial

Moving music around in space with @mi.mu.gloves in the Sonisphere at @imperialcollege with @fromnowmusic

Using IEM Ambisonics plugins to move a sound object in 5th order ambisonics using 36 out of the 45 loudspeakers of the Sonisphere lab of the Audio Experience Design Team at Imperial College London

Thank you so so much to Kathi @kazonkaya from @mi.mu.gloves to make this possible and letting us try the gloves. Such an amazing experience with crazy cool gloves 🧤

Can’t wait to do more stuff with the gloves in the sphere and take it to the next level with multiple sound sources using track stems 🚀

What the hell is this room?

Inside the semi-anechoic chamber at Imperial College London — a setup with 45 loudspeakers arranged in a full sphere!

Every single speaker is positioned at the exact same distance from the center measuring point.

Here’s what goes down in a lab like this:
• HRTF Measurement (Head-Related Transfer Functions)
• Spatial Hearing Experiments
• VR & Binaural Audio Testing
• Ambisonics Playback

This is what the future of immersive audio looks like.

Would you sit in the center of this ring? Let me know in the comments!

OptiTrack Cameras

These cameras can be used together to track, capture, monitor and record object and body movements with sub millimeter precision. When installed in a space, objects and people equipped with adequate markers can be tracked to acquire precise position coordinates. These coordinates can then be used to record a specific movement or streamed as objects positions for Spatial Audio application.

Imagine tracking body movements and objects positions to move sound in space, modulate audio effects, change visual effects or anything your imagination can come up with. These changes are affected by the millimeter in a space that can be as big as a warehouse.

This technology will have a massive impact on Spatial Audio research, music production, musician movements analysis, immersive experiences, social interaction experiments and many other things. taken in Imperial College London by @spektra.spatial

Butterfly House 🦋 Horniman Museum

Alright, what are we doing today Aaron?
So, we’re at the butterfly house at the Horniman Museum, and we’re taking 360 videos and ambisonic recordings of the butterflies, which we’re going to be rendering into our soundscape studio and the dome that we have provided by XR domes.

On the iPhone, we’re using the Audio Brewers recorder app, which uses the four microphones of the iPhone to create a first order ambisonic recording. We’re going to compare and contrast the results of that.

Ambrio Spatial Mixer | Spatial Audio | DJ

This is the Ambrio controller, and it’s a spatial mixer, so it’s supposed to be combined with your CDJs. You can actually send all your different tracks to all the different channels, and then you can choose where you position each track in space. As you move this orange button, it kind of rotates all the tracks. Of course, you can go and select which track you want to move, which track you want to move in space.

So this is actually the old version of the mixer, but they’re actually working now on an updated version. Right now it’s only an electronic board as the motherboard, but they’re working on a new prototype which will include a lot of new features.

Let me show you what the back looks like. So at the back, you’ve got all the different channels you want to send to your speakers, and you’ve got the different inputs. So you can just connect it as usual to your CDJ, and then you do the spatialisation with the mixer, and then you send it to all the different channels which would be sent to different loudspeakers in your live space.

You can see they’re working with USB-C to later on, have it working with OSC messages. But yeah, this is kind of the old prototype, but it will come in the future very soon. So, yeah, if you’re excited about it, just drop a comment, and if you have any questions, just drop a comment down below.

Thanks @ambriosound for everything ! You guys have made such an insane Spatial Audio tool. Looking forward to the future 🌀 🇧🇪 taken in Brussels, Belgium by @spektra.spatial
