Growing up in an openly racist country I was very aware that everyone wasn't treated equally. Having also traveled the world at a young age I became acutely aware of my privilege because of the color of my skin. Moving to the US in my teens I thought I had left racism behind, only to slowly become aware that it was alive and well. I heard stories from my black classmates and teammates on the track and cross-country team about their experiences with the police (for simply driving home from practice). I spent hours in Super Runners Shop in Grand Central talking with my black coworkers Anthony, Nigel, Demail and Eliris about their experiences and slowly understanding what it was to be followed from store to store for simply shopping for clothes as we all do. But what could I do? I thought it was enough to simply do my part and treat all people equally with kindness and respect. I have come to realize my debt of privilege requires me to do so much more and that starts now and never ends. So while the real work is just starting, and this is an easy task, it's a very important one. June 21st is @lmcarter621 Birthday and she has turned that into a something we are both passionate about, Movement & Justice. Please listen to Lauren’s post and join us on the 21st in running, riding or walking and posting on social media and most importantly donating to one of the 4 organizations. @cmdub77 @seemcfall @runski75 @timstockert @learning8 @acrain113 I challenge you all to get out there and Move For Justice with me! by @spencerjcasey
