From NY with Nashville trips
But Houston’s where I mainly live
I love my kids, I love the bass
I seek God’s hand and seek his face.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

As I was about to head back from Wooten Woods @vixcamps and decided to do a brief recap with @victorwooten about @uhdrhythmandbooks at @uhdofficial before I hit the road.
On July 3rd, The Wooten Brothers (@regiwooten @royfuturemanwooten @jwootensoul) were in town as part of the North American leg of their World Tour. Earlier in the day Vic stopped by campus to shoot an episode of Rhythm & Books. A caption cannot capture what happened in the 40,000 Windows Cafe on that Wednesday morning. Suffice to say… it was a special movement for all involved. We’ll get the footage ready to post, but in the meantime, here’s a glimpse of what transpired.
It was an environment full of love, encouragement, risk, trust, transparency, and teaching. When you create a space that combines those elements, it is almost a foregone conclusion that the music that is brought forth is going to be powerful, honest, and uplifting.
With each episode of Rhythm & Books, I grow more and more thankful that I have been given the opportunity to see this dream become a reality.
So a huge thank you to everyone who has made this happen and to everyone who encouraged this dream in any capacity. by @spencerlightsy

Catching up with @garyvee at @veecon talking about @uhdrhythmandbooks
As Gary states… it’s important to actually, “live” our lives… to operate from a place of authenticity and our true selves, to not worry about what others are thinking of us.
For me, Rhythm & Books has been exactly that. It’s given me the opportunity to create a platform for artists to play music, and to share the impact music has had on my life - while simultaneously giving the artists an opportunity to speak from their lives and share their art.
A big think you to:
all the artists who have participated so far @valenthevalentine, @charly.siaba, @themightyorq, @sho_nuff_band_, @thegraceharrison, @victorwooten;
to @uhdofficial for allowing the event to have a place on campus;
and to Gary, @krainak, @jeremyknows, @_nickcorso, @nickdio, @mahagaber, and everybody else working at Vee Con to create an atmosphere that fosters this type of innovation, creativity, and the pursuit of living our lives to the fullest. 🙏🏽 by @spencerlightsy

Recap from the 2023 UHD volunteer trip to Wooten Woods as narrated by Victor Wooten. @vixcamps
If you’re a musician at any level, you owe it to yourself to get to Wooten Woods at least once in your life. by @spencerlightsy

Temps dropping in Texas this week has me going through old clips from the Summer. You may not believe it based on the caliber of what you see in this video, but these dance moves were all original.
No professional choreographer was involved in this presentation, all the moves were strictly my own, and I improvised the entire dance routine.
Production Credits:
Choreography - me
Vocals - @dannidoesdopeshit
Music - @agreeable.men
Videography, BGV - @rashidahgs
Site Location: @theritzmv
On a related note… when you’re on the Vineyard, you owe it to yourself to check out the Agreeable Men at the Ritz in Oak Bluffs. Amazing time. taken in The Ritz Martha's Vineyard by @spencerlightsy

Walking back to work at @uhdofficial after the Happy Hour on Main with @downtownhouston
My commute is on a bicycle, but if you drive to work, hanging out on the Main Street Promenade is a great way to let the rush hour traffic die down before heading home.

Here are a few moments from the screening of Dust at the University of Houston. Dust is a film by @prof.chrissy who was one of my professors when I was an undergrad and who has become a friend. In addition to being one of my favorite professors, she was also cool with Dr. Lence (RML - Reasonable Mr Lence OR Raving Mad Lunatic😉) so that tells you a lot right there. It has been encouraging to see someone who has spent her life in a professional academic environment be able to utilize that to create something artistic in nature.
If you made it this far in the caption, I’ll skip synthesizing a message from the film (you can watch the film yourself for that) and instead, pass along a message that the good professor shared with the audience after the film… if you have something you want to create, do it.

I stopped by Gator Den at @uhdofficial to drop off some materials, and I was able to hear two of the students from @uhdgatorgroove on the piano working on a new original song. Gator Groove is the student band from UHD that supports @uhdrhythmandbooks as the opening band and have been to Wooten Woods several times as Volunteers. It’s amazing to see their growth as musicians. In addition to growing in their technical ability, it has been even more rewarding to see them grow as people. One of the things @victorwooten often says is a quote from his Mom, which states, “What does the world need with another good musician? What the world needs are more good people.”

2026 Tracking Camp at Wooten Woods Album 2. In this one there are some more Duck River scenes, tracking in the mud and stones on the river bank, tracking in the forest in a sand trap, some group photos in front of Dinah’s Woodshed, a great reminder in the kitchen, then a few more stage and barn photos.

2026 Tracking Camp at Wooten Wooten. Album 1. Starting off under the bridge at UHD, thus the @victorwooten Man under the bridge song, passing through Memphis at the Civil Rights Museum, then arriving at camp. Some scenes from on stage, outside the barn, Vic teaching class, the tent set up area, sitting by the fire, and down by the river. A great time at @vixcamps with friends, students, music, nature, learning, listening, and tending to the fire. #music #nature #river #friends #fire by @spencerlightsy

2026 The videos from Tracking Camp at Wooten Woods in Tennessee. Passing through Memphis on the way to Nashville. Exploring tracks in the sandpit and along the river bank. Also some clips of the jam sessions throughout the weekend. Huge thank you to Vic and Holly for making this possible. As promised in the earlier video I got rid of some of the venison Rod brought to camp, and because I’m willing to go the extra mile, I also got rid of some of the brownies he brought that Kristen baked - I am here to serve the people 😉
This was the last camp of the season and things will start up again in the spring. As I say every time… if you are a musician, if you enjoy being in nature, or if you enjoy being around kind people, you owe it to yourself to find a way to get to Wooten Woods at least once in your life. #woods #river #nature #music #tennessee taken in Victor Wooten's Center for Music and Nature by @spencerlightsy

Heading home after a long and fulfilling day of work at the University of Houston-Downtown. Here are a few scenes on campus from my office, the South Deck, over Buffalo Bayou, over White Oak Bayou, and by the College of Sciences and Technology. Beautiful Sunset with the Downtown Houston Skyline as the backdrop. Soundtrack by Khruangbin.
