Kommst du nicht herein, Erich Zeisl

A special moment from our Shoah Songbook recital at Vienna’s historic Ehrbar Saal with Exilarte, featuring our dear friend Spencer Kryzanowski at the piano.

Zeisl was a Viennese Jewish composer whose career was interrupted when Nazi Germany annexed Austria in 1938, forcing him into exile. His music, preserved in collections like Exilarte’s extraordinary archive, offers a powerful connection to Vienna’s Jewish musical life before the war.

Massive congratulations to my incredible colleagues in opera, dance, and all forms of theatre on the @tapa_to Dora award nominations!

I’m still pinching myself that I’m now officially a “Dora-nominated” composer and music director. What an honour! Sending all of my gratitude to the whole @atgtheatre team and artists that helped shape Canuck Cantatas. Thank you for trusting me to helm the music direction and writing of Red Daughters with @caribou.barbie. It was a dream getting to work with The Happen Stancers too! Such incredible musicians that breathed life into all of the new operas we presented.

Thank you so much to Ian Ritchie @opera_going_toronto for this incredibly kind review. It was an honour to bring the poetry of @caribou.barbie to life this week, make my impromptu compositional debut, and be part of such an incredible triptych of brilliantly creative new Canadian operas. I also must thank @jennifernichols_dance for bringing life to Red Daughters and ALL of the operas in such a beautifully powerful way. I won’t ever forget the past week and this incredibly meaningful project. Long live new opera in Canada! Let’s keeps doing this incredible work @atgtheatre! @rvavrek

We had such a beautiful time in Vienna performing the Shoah Songbook at @ehrbarsaal.wien and diving into meaningful work with ExilArte’s incredible collections. We’re especially excited to bring music by Erich Zeisl and Egon Lustgarten into our work. Thank you to the ExilArte team for introducing us to these remarkable composers.

We’re grateful for the incredible community and friends who welcomed us so warmly. We can’t wait to be back again soon!

✨Here’s a huge photo dump from the past five weeks of travels! I was way up in the frozen Yukon presenting recitals and school shows with @danzrae and @jeremyscinocca.tenor with thanks to @yukonarts and @edmontonopera. Right after, I jetted off to Germany, Ireland, and Austria with @jaclyngrossman and had the great privilege of researching and presenting music from the Shoah Songbook (music of Jewish composers from the Holocaust). I won’t soon forget this fantastic journey and our wonderful presenting partners @aus_art_en and Exil Arte! ✨ I’m grateful each day for the opportunity to make and present art and music.
