Come find us at booth U9 in Hall 1.0 — Tobias Spichtig's monumental installation, "Drama".

Opening today at Art Basel Unlimited from 4–8pm.

For Art Basel Unlimited, Tobias Spichtig pitches drama and creates an interior you enter: a room between hotel suite and private salon in which several new paintings gather on stage. It works the line between absorption and theatricality, building a self-enclosed tableau indifferent to the beholder, then collapsing the fourth wall by dragging you into it. The logic is Proustian, the cork-lined chamber as a sealed apparatus for involuntary memory, interiority made architecture. It carries the charge of Van Gogh’s Bedroom in Arles, a scene that conflates ideas of repose and labour, calm, slightly uncomfortable, confidently in one frame. The figures and his sitters are heralded as much as they are adored, caressed, cared for from the ground up.

Tobias Spichtig makes glamour feel embalmed. His paintings and resin-cast sculptures (often built from second-hand clothing worn by friends, then frozen in gesture) oscillate between shimmering Warholian surface and quiet decay, flat silhouettes that read as ghosts rather than portraits.

Born in Lucerne in 1982, based between Zurich and Berlin, he circles sunglasses, flowers, mattresses, and pets as symbols testing the line between the private and the collective, the mundane and the glamorous. He shows with Peter Kilchmann, Contemporary Fine Arts Berlin, and Jan Kaps.

We are excited to announce Tobias Spichtig's participation in Art Basel Unlimited.

For Art Basel Unlimited 2026, Jan Kaps presents a new installation by Tobias Spichtig, "Drama": a stage dressed as an interior, somewhere between a hotel room and a private salon, hung with new paintings. Rather than meeting the work at a frontal remove, the visitor steps up into it, entering a room in which the paintings have already assembled.

The installation reverses the terms of his 2024 exhibition at Kunsthalle Basel, Everything No One Ever Wanted, where the public mounted a vast stage and became the spectacle. As in the rooms he once filled with beds at the KW Institute, Berlin, the work opens onto a private interior; here the paintings retain the stage, and the visitor arrives among them.

Tobias Spichtig - Heavy Mental

« First dreaming, then painting, and maybe later thinking » - Tobias Spichtig

We are thrilled to present Heavy Mental, the first solo exhibition at the gallery by Berlin-based Swiss artist Tobias Spichtig (b. 1982, Lucerne).

In his exhibition, Spichtig channels a pulse that precedes thought. His works conjure spectral figures, drifting between ghosts and idols, carrying the echo of music posters and teenage bedroom walls. These aren’t narratives - they’re sensations before sense, moments steeped in mood, haunting yet vibrantly alive.

The show runs through July 25, 2025.
