For @spicyph_'s bachelor party, we decided to go on a 600+km overnight adventure to Baguio. It was exhilarating, but also very challenging endurance-wise. It was not an easy drive for our cars. I'm glad all of them made it! Despite the misadventures, like an oversized pigeon cracking my windshield and my aircon malfunctioning going down from Baguio, it was definitely a trip to remember.

Thank you for the great adventure, @cmdrives.ph @nowel_lim @eightsiyx @themangjose_ @earlleemorning @carspiration_official @cobieeeee @paualipio @jour.nate @_johanncarlo

⚡️Make Wagons great again!

Have always been a fan of the RS4 Avant! Especially the older 2000’s models. Audi engineers some amazing German cars. For the price and performance difference, is an Audi RS4 a great alternative to the RS6?

⚡️ What’s your dream daily?

🔥 Thanks @spicyph_ for the shoot

As hardcore wagon fans, we've been waiting for the ideal @AudiOfficial RS4 spec to feature, and it came in the form of @spicyph_'s gorgeous Navarra Blue Metallic example. From a design perspective, no other manufacturer does sports wagons as well as Audi. From the seemingly low rooflines to the clean, strong, and menacing body lines, every RS4 generation has made a meaningful impact in the car culture. This B9.5 generation is no different.

Its 444 horsepower 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 produces 600Nm of torque. Paired with the optional RS Sport Exhaust, it's not afraid to disturb the silence. Power is distributed 40:60 front:rear by the venerable Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Depending on the conditions, it could redistribute the power up to 85% to the front or 70% to the rear. This unit is also equipped with the optional RS Sport Suspension with dynamic ride control. Other quality of life options have been ticked for this car, like the Matrix LED headlights and the Bang & Olufsen sound system.

In our opinion, no other manufacturer does sports wagons as well as Audi. From the clean yet menacing design to the dizzying power figures and sporty driving dynamics, every RS4 generation has made a meaningful impact in the car culture. Basically, it's a practical supercar, and this B9.5 generation is no different.

Follow @spicyph_ to witness the exciting life that this brand new RS4 is going to live!

Like many, my first foray into the world of cars was through my dad. I fondly remember having a drawer packed to the brim with assorted tomicas growing up. One car I will always associate with my dad will be the iconic Land Cruiser. The 200 series remains to be his favorite car out of everything in the garage. Admittedly, I didn’t get it at first. I didn’t like Land Cruisers, viewing them as expensive, heavy, slow, a barely acceptable cabin, and with dreadful braking ability.

Then one Sunday, I woke up, got dressed, and headed downstairs to get my usual Sunday Yardshake. I turned the corner and came face to face with this green…thing. This is a 1997 Land Cruiser 80 VX. Equipped with all the bells and whistles including the fabled triple lockers, auxiliary fuel tank, OEM winch and more, the car was a surprise addition to the garage, and one that surprised me even more with how much character it possessed.

As pictured before you, the build direction is simple, OEM plus, and period correct. A plethora of original parts were sourced including fresh OEM side mouldings, new Dubai market specific gold emblems, a new front grille, an overhauled transmission and transfer case, new sun roof track, new wheels, specifically Raguna RF01s shod in Falken Wildpeak tires, reupholstered and refreshed interior, among many other things. It additionally stands taller courtesy of a 2.5 inch Old Man Emu lift, accompanied by a Hard Race rear panhard rod. Specific JDM goodies were sourced too, including the original ice cube tray for the ice cube maker.

As a certified time capsule, the 80 holds up remarkably well in 2023, possessing many features modern cars lack. Of course, it’s no sports car, with copious amounts of body roll and very leisurely acceleration, but it more than makes up for that in sheer presence. I find it unbelievable still, that a 90s car is this huge and this ahead of its time.

Consider this my own love letter to the venerable Land Cruiser line. I finally get it, and all it took was a car the same age as me. by @spicyph_

The Macan. I’ll be honest, I came into this one expecting to dislike it, or at the very least, be disappointed in it. I assumed, that this would be another by the numbers crossover. I assumed, that this would be a Porsche in name only. I assumed, that this would be a bland, unremarkable driving experience. I assumed, that once the “new car” smell wore off, I’d quickly forget about it.

Turns out, I’m really…bad at assumptions. The Macan is a fantastic car, a true Swiss Army knife of a vehicle that can do it all. Canyon carving? Check. Grocery shopping? Check. Golf with business colleagues? Check. Date night? Check. Torrential rain and light flooding? Check. Bumper to bumper traffic? Check. Tight squeezes in Poblacion? Check. If there were any car to be worthy of the coveted perfect daily award, this is my pick.

The car comes equipped with a host of creature comforts including the oddly well hidden brake hold, air suspension, 360 degree camera and parking sensors all around. Truth be told, these things should be expected for a car in its class, so no surprises there. What you’re really paying for, aside from the badge, is the driving experience. This Macan comes fitted with a 7 speed PDK transmission (as do all others) and a 2L 4 cylinder turbocharged engine, shared with the Mk7 Golf.

One would be forgiven for forgetting you’re behind the wheel of a crossover when driving spiritedly. It hides its weight extremely well, thanks to steering that is light and communicative and a well engineered chassis. The Macan offers a genuinely sporty driving experience uncharacteristic of the luxury crossover segment, being at home when cruising on the highway, as well as when winding through tight corners.

There will never be a perfect car, but there can be a car perfect for every occasion. The Macan is one such car. by @spicyph_

I remember telling myself when I got my first car that I’d never enjoy an SUV or a crossover. Why get something that offers an objectively worse driving experience and typically costs more? Cut me a slice of humble pie then, because how wrong I was.  A surprise addition, this 2017 FJ Cruiser lived a hard life as a trail vehicle, sporting the “bakal-bakal” set up we see on Manila roads, it did little to stand out from the crowd when I first took ownership of it.

I knew straight away that it wouldn’t see much trail use, and would be confined to the role of pavement princess 90% of the time. Fortunate or unfortunate for me, JAOS exists. A few messages here, a few phone calls later, and the FJ is reborn as a complete JAOS FJ Cruiser, with everything in the catalog ordered in. Notably, I was extremely fortunate to be able to secure the last set of the now discontinued JAOS Victron wheels in the Philippines.

This is actually 1 of 2 complete JAOS FJ Cruisers in the country to my knowledge. Differences exist between the twins, despite both being white FJ Cruisers equipped with the full catalog, though I’ll leave that to eagle eyed enthusiasts to point out.

The FJ has aged extremely well, with there still being nothing quite like it on the road. Designed as a homage to the original FJ40, it was ahead of its time, predating the current boxy SUV revival. Still well loved, the FJ Cruiser has a cult following here in the country, most evident in the still strong aftermarket scene and secondhand market years after its discontinuation.

To build on this character, OEM+ bits and bobs were added onto the interior, including Ellis Precision knobs, the ever popular AJT key fob alongside the AJT interior trim, and the OEM FJ Cruiser rear netting.

You may note that I haven’t really touched on the driving character of the car, and that’s intentional. To me, the FJ Cruiser is best appreciated for its character, instead of its driving characteristics.

There will always be a more capable off roader, or a more retro quirky SUV (see: the upcoming Prado), but that’s not the point, nor was it ever. by @spicyph_

What’s there to say about the eponymous 911 that hasn’t already been said? Perhaps the darling of the entire enthusiast scene, the Porsche 911 can do no wrong. Pictured is a 2012 997.2 Carrera, the last model year of the 997 generation before the introduction of the larger 991s. As my first foray into the Porsche cult, I came in skeptical about what the car could offer. Suffice it to say, the “Porsche bug” is the real deal.

More than 10 years stand between this automotive time capsule and the S550 Mustang, yet of the two, I’d tell you in a heartbeat that the 911 is the car of choice if you’re after sheer driving bliss. Immediately communicative steering, the venerable PDK transmission, and Herculean brakes contained in a highly manoeuvrable (read: tiny) chassis make for the ideal driver’s car. Think on this for a second, this isn’t the top of the range GT3RS, no, it’s a humble base Carrera, not even equipped with PASM, sport mode, exhaust modes, or the sport chrono pack. It’s specced more liked a tourer with a beautiful tan interior, two tone steering wheel and optional sunroof, and yet I’d choose this as my weapon of choice any day.

This car, truth be told, has ruined me for good. Nothing compares to it, and the desire to add another one (or two, or three) to the fleet will always be there. It’s still almost as factory fresh as the day it left the factory, with the biggest change being the BBS CH-R wheels it now sports. I plan to keep it this way. Why meddle with perfection after all?

It seems then that the saying is true.

There is no substitute. by @spicyph_
