Great to see the wonderful Fiona Shaw stealing the show as Mrs Jennings in the new Sense and Sensibility film ✨

Fiona joined us at the launch of Spiracle 2.0 last month, where we snapped this lovely photo of her with our Sense and Sensibility Audiobook in a Cardā„¢.

And if two hours of Austen isn’t quite enough, there’s always the audiobook… šŸŽ§ by @spiraclehq

Thanks to Swedenborg House we had a rocket of a launch for Spiracle 2.0. A great vibe with an incredible array of professionals who make up the audiobook world: audio engineers, producers, audio proofers, metadata writers and managers, translators, actors aka narrators, casting agents, tech and product directors, illustrators, title editors, book publishers, of course authors.. and.. in Spiracle’s unusual case.. booksellers.

Hair raising excerpts read by truly remarkable as well as prize winning authors, Deborah Levy and Claire-Louise Bennet, and a stunning performance from Diana Quick of the short story ā€˜Breaking it Down’ by Lydia Davis and Stephen McNeilly director of Swedenborg, who lit the (good) fire.

Audiobook in a Cardā„¢ was a magnet for the illustrators and actors present - amazing and pictured, Fiona Shaw with Sense and Sensibility, Lydia Leonard with Virginia Woolf’s Flush, Emma Fielding with Ti Amo, illustrator Anna Steinberg with The Seers. Booksellers extraordinaire, Rosamund de la Hey and Jo Coldwell.

Spiracle 2.0 offers an ever expanding catalogue and a focus on discovery and community.

Quentin Ellis, Director of Product

One card, thousands of audiobooks. Your choice.

Created for us by the brilliant @mianilssonillustration and designed by the visionary @hungrymoon , this colourful cast stars in our brand-new Audiobook in a (Gift) Card collection. Each design captures a different times when people enjoy listening to an audiobook.

Until now, letting people choose their own audiobook has usually meant sending a digital voucher or giving a conventional credit-card-style gift card. We wanted to create something more personal; a gorgeous card that can be opened, with the freedom to choose your own audiobook.

From the 1st September, each card can be exchanged for any audiobook from Spiracle’s expanding catalogue. Thousands of titles from bestselling fiction, gripping thrillers to biography, history, the classics and small press gems.

Ā£14 | Available to preorder now | Shipping from 5 September

One card, thousands of audiobooks. Your choice.

Emma Dobie, Head of Retail for Audiobook in a Cardā„¢ by Spiracle, walked into Waterstones Piccadilly - to witness a milestone!
Today we're on the shelves in 50 Waterstones flagship stores across the UK and Ireland, including Foyles (W&G Foyle Ltd), Charing Cross Road, Hatchards Piccadilly, Blackwell's Bookshops’s Oxford and Hodges Figgis, Dublin.

This is a great development for all the independent book and gift shops we work with as well as Waterstones - it means people will become more and more familiar with the idea that you can buy an audiobook as a proper gift. Look out for Audiobook in a Cardā„¢ in your local bookshop.

Will Dady, Chief Spiracle Spotlighter, talks to Ra Page, Founder of Comma Press, specialising in short stories.

..."Talking about the early days, another familiar theme crops up – an embracing of ā€˜small is beautiful’. Even the name Comma, Ra explains, espouses this. ā€˜Everything in the corporate, capitalist world is about ā€œbig is beautifulā€ – aggrandising everything, overinflating, bigging up its size and importance. This received wisdom that ā€œbig is bestā€ leads to a kind of consumer fatigue. Short stories are the opposite: seemingly incidental, deceptively modest. So I wanted to name the press after something that’s almost negligible – ā€œFloat like a butterfly, sting like a bee.ā€ā€™ And there’s a literary reference, too, he’s quick to point out – ā€˜In Chekov's story ā€œThe Exclamation Markā€, a typically dull civil servant has a hallucinatory breakdown where commas start flying around him, chasing him down the street…" Read on (link in bio) by @spiraclehq
