On January 11 1945 Captain William S. Shomo (1918-1990) from the 82nd TRS 71st TRG with his Wingman Lt Paul Lipscomb, becomes a ace in a day for downing 7 Japanese Aircraft’s over the airfield of Tuguegarao, Aparri. Paul Lipscomb witness report: On their first pass through the formation, Shomo closed to less than 40 yards (37 m) before opening fire. He shot down four Tonys, then came up under the bomber, firing into its belly. The bomber caught fire and began to lose altitude as its pilot attempted to crash-land the plane. Two of the Tonys escorting the bomber stayed with it as it went down. Shomo pulled up in a tight vertical spiral to gain altitude while the Tojo turned to engage him. The Japanese fighter fired until it stalled and slipped into the clouds. The Betty exploded as it bellied in, and the two escorting Tonys broke away, staying low. Shomo made a second diving pass at the two Tonys and downed them both. Lt Paul was credited with 3 kills which bring both pilots tally to 10 Japanese aircraft destroyed on that dayCaptain William Shomo was promoted to Major and was awarded the Medal of Honour for his leading an attack against heavy odds on that day. Lee Andrew Archer, Jr. (1919-2010) is the member of the 332nd Fighter Group (Tuskegee Airman) from the 15th Air Force who was famous for becoming America’s only African American ace of World War 2.He’s remembered for his exploits on October 12 1944 during a mass dogfight over Lake Balaton Hungary he shoots down 3 Hungarian Bf-109s which made him an ace while flying his P-51 named “Ina the Macon Belle”. Lee was one of four Tuskegee Airman pilots to earned 3 kills in a single day he was credited with 5 Aerial kills 6 Parked Aircrafts on the ground 7 Locomotives Motor Transports and Barges. by @spitfiresammons

B-17G-50-DL 44-6387 (Nickname Unknown) of the 815th BS/483rd BG was shot down on the bloody mission to bomb Ruhland Germany on the 22 March 1945.The bomber was hit by heavy German AA flaks before been finished off by Me-262s from JG7 of the crew of ten eight become POW and two were KIA.#Historical #B17 #FlyingFortress by @spitfiresammons

B-17G 42-31855 (Nickname Unknown) of the 342nd BS/97th BG made it back to Amendola airbase Italy after bombing mission on Steyr ball bearing plant factory in Austria on 2 April 1944.The damage can be see in the tail after been struck by the rocket fired from Bf-110 once repaired 42-31855 continued to serve with the group until it’s converted into a weather ship in October 1944.#History #B17 #FlyingFortress by @spitfiresammons

Lt Donald McKibben (1921-2015) with his P-51B-10 42-106483 nickname “Miss Lace” of the 486th FS 352nd FG from RAF Bodney. He claimed he’s only kill a Bf-109 on 19th April 1944 in that mustang but it was lost in a mid air collision with a Bf-109 on the 13 May 1944 with Capt Frank Cutler at the controls of Miss Lace he was killed instantly. by @spitfiresammons

This Photos were taking by Photographer on the 6th August 1944 at RAF Bodney of George E Preddy Jr (1919-1944) from the 487th FS 325th FG returns after Shooting down 6 Bf-109s in a single day which made him a ace in a day the strain of the mission shows on his face. His famous 6 kills in a day was captured on his gun camera taking that day. by @spitfiresammons

This is Hawker Typhoon Mk.1b RB396 it serves with RAF no.174 Squadron station at Volkel Air base B.80 Netherlands it was shot down and crash landed on 1st April 1945 the pilot Flt Lt Chris House manage to return to allied line 4 days later. Following the end of the war, the wreckage of RB396 was recovered for scrap, with ownership passing through the hands of various people, before the rear fuselage section was rescued and ended up on display in a small museum in the Netherlands.In 2012, his section was spotted by an aviation enthusiast and collector, purchased, and brought back to the UK to form part of a growing collection of Typhoon parts. This collector made the acquaintance of the now Typhoon Preservation Group project director a few years later, and the idea of potentially restoring a Typhoon to airworthy condition began from there.
