POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I spend most of my time behind the camera on social media. Feels much more comfortable, I must admit.
😊
But quite a few wonderful new folks have joined this community recently, so I wanted to introduce myself properly (and with a more recent picture.)
👋
I’m the Stephanie of Stephanie Pütter Jewelry. This small but mighty business has been my love affair, obsession and Mount Olympus for 20 years.
🧗‍♀️
I started at the bench. Learned the mysteries of metal and the magic of gems. I love the craft but was drawn to the design side. And the treasure hunt for antique pieces—well, that’s an obsession worthy of its own post.
🏴‍☠️
So I’ve evolved and stretched to the creative direction you see now. A happy marriage of old and new. An #oldworldnewstyle approach that honors your past, toasts your present and celebrates your future. It’s my goal to curate and reimagine one of a kind pieces that will make your heart sing.
♥️
It’s worth mentioning that in addition to being a jewelry nerd, I love giving old treasures a new life. Saving what’s timeless from the scrap heap. Showing you that classic can have edge. That chic can be cheeky. And that the best kind of style—no matter what vintage—makes you feel invincible in the here and now.
💪
Thank you for joining me on this journey. For trusting me with your heirlooms. And for supporting my passion of creating beautiful jewelry rich with history and meaning.
🙏

A crowned porcupine and a Scottish thistle: two distinctive emblems, each with a story rooted in European history.

Both began life as pins. Found in France, they’ve been given a second life as medallions.

Swipe to discover the stories behind them.

The Porcupine of Louis XII

The porcupine was the emblem of Louis I, Duke of Orléans, who founded the Order of the Porcupine in 1394. His grandson, Louis XII, carried the symbol into the French royal imagination.

Its motto, Cominus et eminus — “from near and far” — expressed the ability to defend oneself at close quarters and at a distance. The quills were once believed to be projectiles, making the animal a potent symbol of both defence and attack.

The crowned porcupine on this piece recalls that remarkable chapter of French royal history.

Scotland’s Emblem of Defiance

The thistle has long been associated with Scotland, appearing on Scottish coinage in the fifteenth century and becoming the emblem of the Order of the Thistle, Scotland’s highest order of chivalry.

Its motto, Nemo me impune lacessit — “No one provokes me with impunity” — captures the spirit of a quietly formidable little plant.

Here, repeated thistle-like forms and intricate openwork create a striking circular design. Its precise maker and date remain a mystery, but its symbolism has endured for centuries.

Found in France, these two antique pins once carried very different emblems — and very powerful messages.

A crowned porcupine linked to Louis XII. A thistle that evokes Scotland’s proud emblem.

Now transformed into medallions, they bring centuries of symbolism, identity and defiance into the present.

Two historic finds. Two new lives.

Do you have a favorite?

A little French mystery in amethyst… 💜

One of my favorite kinds of antique jewelry finds is a piece that asks us to take a closer look. This charming French silver swivel fob, dating probably to the early 19th century, is a little treasure trove of symbolism.

Fobs like this were personal accessories, often worn on a watch chain, and engraved stones could serve as seals. This one has three faces, each with a French motto and a miniature engraved image. Turn it in the hand, and a new message appears.

Swipe to learn more about each side —>

“Je ne change jamais la première” — I never change the first…

A tiny padlock and possibly weather vane accompanies this curious declaration. The final word makes all the difference: this is not simply a promise to remain unchanged, but perhaps a pledge to remain faithful to the first—the first love or the first choice.

Is the lock guarding a heart that has already chosen? Does the weather vane blow in one direction, holding steady over the course of time? We can only speculate, but what a lovely little puzzle to inherit from another century.

“Il faut me chercher” — I must be sought.

Here, a flower seems to hide within a tuft of foliage or grass. I love this one. The violet was an emblem of modesty in the language of flowers: its beauty is discreet, half concealed, and must be discovered. The motto is not simply “find me,” but “I must be sought.”

The phrase has a fascinating history. In 1825, an amethyst seal engraved in Paris for Sibbella Maclean paired these very words with a violet hidden in grass. A lovely reminder that these little engraved images belonged to a much richer world of personal emblems and private meanings.

“Point de tromperie” — No deception.

Two winged cherubs sit opposite one another at a table, playing with dice. One holds what appears to be a little rattle or plaything.

There is something wonderfully mischievous about the scene. Perhaps the motto is a playful reminder to play fair—no cheating, no trickery. Or to stay true to the one you love despite temptation?

Regardless, it’s a small moral lesson, delivered by cherubs!

Three faces, three mottos: constancy, discovery and honesty.

What a fortnight it’s been. 🩵💚💛
We worked hard and played harder. Ate ice cream every day. Dove into the ocean, the bay and the pool every chance we got. Barked at the waves and howled at the moon.
Thank you beautiful Hamptons—you were everything we needed and more than we could have hoped for. We leave with full hearts and an even fuller car.
