Cool off at La Mama this Tuesday for an ⭐️EXTRAORDINARY⭐️ Care Cafe!

An ExtraOrdinary Care Café is a portal for the intergenerational queer and trans community: where LGBTQ+ youth and elders gather across generations, and care becomes its own kind of cosmos.

We’ll be creating SPACE through some group drawings and mural making. As always, there will be bites, drinks, and conversation with friends new and old.

Come nourished, come joyful, come held. The universe has been waiting for you.

A free event created by Lois Weaver and co-hosted with Lois Weaver, Peggy Shaw, Kim Ima, and Spencer Olsen in partnership with Hetrick Martin Institute (HMI) and La Mama ETC.

The Hetrick-Martin Institute provides a safe and supportive environment for LGBTQIA+ youth between the ages of 13 and 24 to achieve their full potential. At HMI, youth find the care and community they need to build brighter futures, affirm their identities, nurture their strengths, and equip them to pursue a more equitable tomorrow.

About a Care Cafe...
A Care Café asks us to turn up as we are, with no specific agenda, expectation, or discussion topic, simply asking the question: How can we maintain an attitude of care in an uncaring world? Set up like a conventional café with small tables and chairs, the Care Café acts as a temporary venue for community and conversation with some simple table activities set up within a framework of care. The days are getting longer, but they also seem to be getting darker with news of war, bigotry and discrimination here in the US. In our way, Care Café is responding—by sowing seeds of hope and care.

This month, we’re teaming up with both the Hetrick-Martin Institute and the Arab-American Family Support Center to celebrate Arab-American Heritage month and welcome in the springtime 🌷

Through playful, community-centered activities, we’ll plant intentions, share messages, and connect across cultures and generations. We might even have a short Speak Out session! So if you have a heritage poem, healing quote, anti-war rant, or relevant announcement to share, do bring it along.

As usual, there will be light refreshments—this time including Arabic coffee, tea, and small bites like baklava, ma’amoul and more!

RSVP with La Mama to let us know you are coming or drop in anytime between 5-7 pm.
