The Red Wake (Model 3), @grimdarkcompendium / The Black Chalice Competition Unit Category.

The third and final member of the unit which is Tom's favourite (personally No.2 wins it for me!)

Huge shout out to the @grimdarkcompendium again for this epic competition 🔥

The Red Wake (Model 2), @grimdarkcompendium / The Black Chalice Competition Unit Category.

Following from our previous post, this model focused on my fear of spiders again. Creating wire tentacles and legs, as if to grab and take the scummers of the Underhive back to their layer to harvest them.

We also included a shot with a Space Marine to help gauge the size of these minis as they're much bigger than you'd expect.

Massive thanks again to the @grimdarkcompendium competition for giving me the opportunity to keep exploring my strange little corner of the Underhive. Buzzing to see all the other great entries!

The Red Wake (Model 1), @grimdarkcompendium / The Black Chalice Competition Unit Category.

When creating ‘The Red Wake’, I wanted to expand the world of The Harvest, my custom Necromunda gang of machine-corpse hybrids that scavenge human remains and fuse them into their mechanical bodies. For this unit, I imagined a group of scavenger warriors actively stalking the forgotten depths of the Underhive in search of living humans to harvest.

Visually, I wanted to move away from the cold blues and desaturated tones of my previous Harvest model and explore something more threatening. Red became the defining colour of the unit, used to represent the terror and violence these machines bring with them rather than simply acting as part of their colour scheme.

The miniatures were built up with acrylics before moving into oils and Villainy Inks to create transitions, staining, grime and surface variation. I’d never really used Villainy Ink Ichor of the Damned before, so this project became an opportunity to really push it, using it as oily staining across the machinery and allowing it to drip down onto the bases, creating a trail of oil, blood and ichor through the environment.

That idea ultimately gave the unit its name. The Red Wake is not necessarily what the machines call themselves, but what the inhabitants of the Underhive call the trail they leave behind.

Really excited to be entering another @grimdarkcompendium competition and to continue building out this strange little corner of the Underhive. Best of luck to everyone taking part, and I can’t wait to see all the entries.
