POSTS STORIES REELS

In opening our restaurant in June 2017, our goals were to be of the neighborhood and for the neighborhood while providing a special level of hospitality, service, food and beverage that we ourselves would want to experience. In our six and a half year tenure we believe we achieved just that as we had the honor of holding down the corner of Chicago and Campbell in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago.

It is with a great sense of achievement that we announce Split-Rail’s closure on December 10th.

It’s no secret that this industry - while wholly beautiful in the core of gathering, drinking and dining - is challenging. We have faced those challenges head on in pivoting our menus, our payment structure and, most notably, all that was demanded of us during the quarantine period between March 2020 and June 2021. We believe our time has come to an end serving our neighbors in this way while feeling deep gratitude for everyone who shifted with the times right along with us.

Next Sunday the 19th will be our final brunch service and we will continue with dinner service through the December date. As we would like to serve you one final time, we encourage you to make your reservations now for one last Stay Out of the Forest, one last Fried Chicken set, one last Hanukkah dinner and one last gathering in our beautiful dining room.

Along with our closure comes the closure of The Martin, the gallery and private space next door. We encourage you to visit the final exhibition during your visits and follow them to be notified of gallery hours and final collection opportunities.

Our beloved cocktail lounge, Dorothy, continues on. While we end the chapter that includes Split-Rail and The Martin, we are not leaving the hospitality industry and are looking forward to continuing to hold space in this neighborhood and in this bar that so many of you have gratefully embraced.

Our Hospitality Collective is called Drinking Policy and you can follow us @drinkingpolicy to stay in the know on where you can find us next.

Thank you.

Cheers,

Why queer weddings? The JOY, baby!

Our wedding requests really picked up in Split-Rail & The Martin after our reopen in 2021 post-quarantine. We’ve gotten to host many unique ceremonies in our space and enjoyed it so much we want to do it all the time.

Don’t forget if Villanelle happens you also get to leverage adding on a reception, after party or just some time in under the disco ball at Dorothy, our lesbian cocktail lounge.

Our Kickstarter is almost at the $13k level! This is an all or nothing effort so help us by donating, sharing, booking a future event or however else you can to keep our momentum going. 🌈 by @splitrailchicago

INTRODUCING: VILLANELLE

Drinking Policy Hospitality Collective announces today their intention to open VILLANELLE : Chicago’s only queer wedding and events venue - dedicated to designing and offering the best celebrations for any and all types of love, milestones and experiences specifically for and with the queer community.

In order to make this vision a reality, we have launched a Kickstarter for the month of February with the goal to revamp the former Split-Rail restaurant into a multi-functional, French brasserie inspired, beautiful venue atop our 70s inspired cocktail lounge, Dorothy.

Split-Rail isn’t done yet.

After our announcement of closing Split-Rail we were met with an incredible outpouring of love, grief, support and everything in between. Our original plan was to close Split-Rail & The Martin, tidy up the space and walk away.

But, then.

We thought - what if we didn't? What if we kept aspects of our businesses that bring us energy, light and joy and reimagined what we could do with the recipes we've perfected, the hospitality we believe in, while also protecting the peace and community of Dorothy just below us?

We're here to say: we're not done yet.

Today we announce SPLIT-RAIL CATERING - live and ready to order today! Packages include Gluten Free Fried Chicken & Sides, Fried Chicken & Biscuits, Breakfast & A La Carte.

Link in bio to peruse and order catering from us for your next celebration.

More to come - in the meantime, thank you for inspiring us to keep going.

We’re entering our final ten days of Split-Rail dinner service!

Our reservations are poppin’ (& we love you for that) but we wanted to remind you we do not take reservations at the bar so it’s still worth popping by & attempting to grab a seat if OpenTable is booked up.

Tonight we’re here 5-9pm and are open alongside The Martin next door and Dorothy just below us. Hope to see you soon!

Our friend Lisa has been illustrating our building, food & staff for years now and recently shared a few sketches of our beautiful corner with us to use on upcoming promotional materials…

….like MERCH! We launched a 2500 W Chicago merch store last week with tshirts, tanks, sweatshirts & long sleeved tees from all three of our businesses - available in a wide variety of colors and sizes.

Link in bio to grab your merch! Also a reminder you can get one of our rad SnapBack hats whenever you order takeout or delivery - or just ask your server or bartender the next time you’re in. by @splitrailchicago

Thank you Chicago Magazine for listing our Fried Chicken & Biscuits as a top entree to eat in Chicago!

Always an honor to be highlighted in this vast city of ours - and this edition especially has some heavy hitters, incredible food and awesome Chefs and restaurants we admire and are happy to be included with.

The issue is out now - grab one today!

If you want to give our fried chicken a try, we’ll be here 4-10pm 🍗 by @splitrailchicago

Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈

While we are proudly Queer *all* Year, we are especially proud to be a queer-owned, woman-owned, family-owned business during Pride!

We show up every day in all three of our spaces and do our best to lead with compassion, integrity and with a whole lot of humor mixed in.

We appreciate all the love and attention we get all June but remind everyone all month that queer folks need support ALL year long. We’re excited to celebrate with you this month, give back to fellow queer orgs, throw dance parties, turn 6 (!!!) and hold down the corner of Campbell & Chicago as the gayest space in West Town.

We hope you come see us this month and beyond, speak up for the queer community, protect trans kids and support queer folks at every opportunity.

We love you - thank you for helping us thrive.

♥️ Whitney & Zoe
