rolling credits

Is there a more fitting way to end a series? Sitting in those plush theater chairs, I knew it would come in handy to record b-roll of the particular way filmmakers talk about their films and the serene scroll of the credits in the background. It gives me the same feeling seeing the dusty train tracks of the Pacific Surfliner for the first time as I made my way home. Although I constructed this series with the intention of catharsis, it was far more meaningful and fun and playful than I ever anticipated. An ending that is slow and quiet and still suits this retrospective just right. by @splittingrabbits

Watching the sunset and the bright purple stripe that my digital camera sees is a highlight of conquering my boredom. Against the silhouetted city infrastructure and landscapes, the sun seems to watch me back, scanning my details too. You have a lot of time to think. by @splittingrabbits

i feel like there's something coming between us?

Much like The Felice Brothers or Eels, lesser-known pop-punk band House Boat's album "The Delaware Octopus" has been particularly formative for me as a sniveling, brash, thoughtless young lout in my journey through early adulthood. It's an album for a time when you have all your walls up, nobody seems to be in your corner, and there's a disconnection that permeates everything you do, whether it's true or not. I am lucky enough to continue using myself as inspiration, and I don't have to break hearts to keep getting clicks. by @splittingrabbits

While editing, my current playlist and current stage of life lends itself easily to Eels' "Hard Rock Times," and this line would ring over and over in my mind. I think back to the big herd standing outside the Arlington and found it to be a perfect pairing. I think back, too, to all of the twinkling golden lights on the nighttime strip on that little street downtown. I felt so small and wide-eyed, like a stereotypical character in a film. by @splittingrabbits

I understand how this sounds. This snippet was originally filmed at the intersection up the street from my apartment and is one of the very last images I have of my first car fully intact. by @splittingrabbits

a little bump-bump and it all comes crashing down

I watched the sun set on this train ride from its very beginning to its very end (very fitting for an early Splitting Rabbits vignette). I felt a lot of things when I was in that window seat. by @splittingrabbits
