Classic Spaces | A hauntingly beautiful reimagination of a classic. With Control, Spoek Mathambo transformed Joy Division’s She’s Lost Control into a darkwave township house anthem, merging post-punk energy with African sonic futurism. Directed alongside celebrated South African photographer Pieter Hugo and cinematographer Michael Cleary, the visual journey moves through the streets of Langa, Cape Town exploring township youth culture, movement, and identity with raw cinematic intensity. More than a cover, Control became a bold statement on African alternative music and visual storytelling pushing boundaries while reshaping global perceptions of sound and culture.
