CIA? On our campus? Ya, no thanks. Yikes! 🫠💀❌️

Tomorrow (Monday October 5th), the CIA is visiting Cheney campus at EWU to recruit YOU. To take YOU away from the education you came to this university to recieve. To get YOU contribute to the violence they cause around the world.

🌹YDSA will be outside of the PUB (Pence Union Building) from 8am to 2pm tabling🌹

And letting our students know why the CIA is NOT a good career path.

We want the university to know that we see your efforts to funnel us away from our education and into military service, and our students will no longer be silent about it.

#ydsa #ewu #YDSAatEWU #dsa #dsaspokane Who CIA really? Not a great career path that's for sure (A shady man in a hat rests beloe a symbol that says "CIA? NO WAY!"l taken in Eastern Washington University by @spokanedsa

"On Thursday August 6, 2026 at 7 PM, a commemoration of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be held tentatively in the Community Building lobby, hosted by Veterans For Peace Chapter 35 in Spokane. The featured speaker will be Sean Chabot, Sociology Prof at EWU. Last year’s event was very successful and was well-attended. We are hoping for a meaningful event this year.

Given that our world today is filled with grievances and signs of insanity that are bringing us so close to nuclear annihilation, it is more important than ever that we bring awareness to this issue. And, we all know the catastrophic results of the Hanford nuclear plant in our own state, with high cancer rates, which remind us of the dangers of nuclear production. The opinion piece quote below makes clear our present danger:

The Tri-City Herald’s recent article, “Where are targets in Washington if there’s nuclear war? See if you’re at risk,” highlights the increasing threat of nuclear war. We applaud bringing the threat of nuclear war to the public consciousness.

World leaders threaten nuclear weapons use, and the Trump administration is calling for renewed nuclear testing and expanded pit production, both of which are fueling a new arms race that would undermine international treaties.

🗳️ The results are in!

During the People’s Town Hall, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a Ranked Choice Voting Mock Primary for Washington’s 5th Congressional District, hosted in partnership with FairVote Washington.

A total of 101 voters cast ranked ballots using all twelve congressional candidates who will appear on Washington’s primary ballot.

Using a Top Five primary format, the candidates who advanced to the hypothetical general election were:

🥇 David Womack
🥈 Kevin Fagan
🥉 Andrew Bartleson
4️⃣ Bajun Mavalwalla
5️⃣ Carmela Conroy

The graphic highlights the top three finishers, but the accompanying video walks through the count round by round, showing how candidates reached the advancement threshold and how later-choice rankings influenced the outcome.

This mock election wasn’t intended to predict the results of the real election. It was designed as an educational demonstration, giving voters an opportunity to experience Ranked Choice Voting firsthand and better understand how the counting process works.

You can explore the complete round-by-round results at the link in our bio.

Thank you to everyone who participated, and to FairVote Washington and the Spokane chapter of FairVote Washington for helping make this demonstration possible.

Would you like to see more opportunities like this to experience different voting systems firsthand? Let us know in the comments.
