A Bikepackers Paradise.

We had such an amazing stay at @spokenhostel while passing through Mitchell, Oregon on the Golden Gravel Trail.

Hosts Jalet and Pat have thought of everything a cyclist would want - showers, laundry, comfy beds, charging stations, snacks, ice cream, kitchen space, cozy slippers and good vibes all around.

They even received a pile of parcels for us!

It was the perfect space to hang out and connect with mile munchers @meaghanhackinen and @adriannebouchard who were heading westbound on the GGT!

We enjoyed Jalet's warm, welcoming and positive energy, and Pat's thoughtful questions and stimulating conversation.

What a great spot!

It was so great to meet up with the legendary @meaghanhackinen at the iconic @spokenhostel in Mitchell, Oregon along the Golden Gravel Trail this week.

If you don't know, Meaghan is the current women's FKT record holder on the Tour Divide, coming in at a crushing 14 days, 10 hours and 2 minutes in 2026, for 1st place women's and 8th overall.

(She's also a fellow @adventurecycling ambassador).

She has a laundry list of other FKTs and epic finishes under her belt, and she was kind enough to let us pepper her with questions about training, racing, nutrition, dating, sleep and sooooo many other things while we shared space at Jalet and Pat's amazing cyclist friendly Spoke'n Hostel along the GGT!

Meaghan and her awesome co-rider @adriannebouchard (who joined her for Boise to Port Orford on the GGT) are wrapping up the Golden Gravel Trail this week!

Rock and roll... Our friend Gerard from the Netherlands ripping down the forest service road into Oakridge on the @adventurecycling Golden Gravel Trail.

The GGT has some real gems along the route. We had a chance to explore a short section between LaPine and Oakridge earlier this year.

If you're on the GGT or the TransAm be sure to turn on your POI layer in @ridewithgps so you don't miss any great stuff along the way.

When Renee Patrick visits, everything halts - and for good reason.

A few years ago, this weary, cold, and tired long distance hiker and trail planner walked through our doors. Nearly hypothermic and suffering some unfortunate poison oak discomfort, we took Renee in and gave her respite. Her journey from Cottonwood Park miles and miles to our north was arduous, but nothing could beset her inimitable spirit.

And so it is now.

Renee was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer shortly after we met. Her life was radically changed. Her great love of hiking and developing long distance trails would have to submit to the ravages of the cancer in her body.

But not her spirit.

Renee is writing about her journey, and other things in her life, with beauty, grace, and an unflinching but inviting transparency. Her spirit flows in her words and she inspires at a level so deep, you probably didn't know it existed.

We count every visit with Renee a blessing. Frankly, we love her. She's a warm place to let your soul pause for a moment as her honest, positive energy floods the room.

Go read her stuff, you'll be better for it.

Let's ride!

After a month of wildfire activity, heavy smoke, and road closures we're finally open again!

The Golden Gravel Trail and the Central Oregon Backcountry Explorer are still impacted and possibly closed in areas due to the Rowe Creek Complex Fire. Please check your routes on the Watch Duty app, or give us a call.

If your route is closed we will do everything within our power to get you reconnected beyond the closure.

We are temporarily closed due to wildland fire activity.

Firefighters are working around the clock to stop the Rowe Creek Complex fire affecting Mitchell, the Painted Hills and surrounding area.

If you're on the Trans Am, Golden Gravel Route, Central Oregon Backcountry Explorer, or any other route through the area, please pause your travel or find an alternate route.

Much of the area is on level 3 evacuation, there's heavy fire traffic on the roads, poor air quality, and occasional (unpredictable) road closures making passage dangerous, if not impossible.

We are closed in support of firefighting activity.

That's a wrap! Trans Am Bike Nonstop is a wild time at Spoke'n Hostel. This cross-country, ultra-endurance bicycle event is a one-of-a-kind and we are all hands on deck for several days.

Our deepest gratitude goes out to Doug and Donna, who make the trip from Laverne, California, every year to help with this event. Their help, support, and grit make all the difference in the world. Thank you.

We'd also like to thank our friend Gerard for helping pull countless goat head thorns from tires and repairing numerous tubes. Bedankt, Gerard!

For all those folks that graciously stopped in and rang a cowbell for a stranger, we thank you.

Thank you Nathan for creating one whacky, wild, crazy ultra-endurance experience.

With the race behind us, we look forward to offering the hospitality to the many travelers on the Trans Am, Golden Gravel Trail, Central Oregon Backcountry Explorer, or several @dirtyfreehub local routes.

We got an early start on Tuesday to meet up with our first drop-in rider @kkg1 and rode to Mitchell, Oregon. We spent the night at the awesome @spokenhostel and enjoyed dinner @tigertownbrewingco

The Ochoco mountains are beautiful and remote, with stunning vistas and chilly mornings. Springs are relatively plentiful and a number of creeks are still flowing.

We made a route detour on Thursday for Kendra to get home from Dayville. We spent the night in the local community church. We refueled with a delicious breakfast at the Dayville Cafe on Friday before riding to John Day.

We’re taking a zero day today, resupplying and resting up before the next push into Idaho. We hope to be there on Tuesday!

When passing through John Day, a must visit is the Kam Wah Chung State Heritage site. An important historic landmark documenting the Chinese immigrant in John Day and Oregon.

Bunks brimming with bikepackers.

Spoke'n Hostel sits right in the middle of the Central Oregon Backcountry Explorer, a great multi-day bikepacking loop beginning and ending in Prineville, Oregon.

If you're on the hunt for some sporty gravel climbs, thrilling descents, panoramic vistas and a mid-trip stay with a bed, shower and local pub, this is the ride for you. We're packed tonight with COBE riders and the vibe is great.
