August 16, 8/16, the 16th of August will always be my dad’s bday. He was a Leo. Loved being a Leo. He was proud that him and Madonna shared the same birthday. 11 years without him has taught me that even in death, you cannot separate us. I’ve only grown closer to him. The things we have in common are crazy, like we’re both fun, fashionable, and friendly ✨We both live/d above our stores. We both had cancer, we both drive upstate regularly to see our family and pets. We both love my mom’s scrambled eggs for breakfast. Oh and we both love the beach…Yeah, if he was still here, he would be doing exactly as I am. So even if I miss him, I feel silly, because he is living through me and I’m going to keep doing more and more sooo let’s see how far we can take this life, baby! 🤩 by @spookyphysics

Behind Queen of Swords is a story of resilience, purpose, and community. ✨

Before there were two salon locations, there was Elma—a daughter of immigrants, a stylist searching for a place where textured hair and every kind of person could feel seen, and someone who turned her own experiences into a mission of creating something different.

Over the years, that journey has included unimaginable loss, living with trichotillomania, the passing of her father, building Queen of Swords from the ground up, a breast cancer diagnosis and recovery, opening our Ridgewood location during treatment, and learning what it truly means to rebuild after life’s hardest moments.

Today, Elma spends much of her time mentoring our team, growing both salons, and continuing to shape Queen of Swords into more than a place for hair—a place where artistry, authenticity, and care come together, and where everyone belongs.

We’re filled with gratitude for this community that has grown alongside us. Thank you for being part of the story. Here’s to everything we’ve built together—and everything still to come. 🖤✨
