Got the best surprise today with a drive by from my third child on his way back up to school. He was here for 10 whole minutes, which was long enough to let the dog hug him, harass Jane about her HOCO date, make fun of her shorts, approve her dress, steal some cookies, and torment Reese via FaceTime. All in all, a most productive visit, and for a blissful time - all my chickens were home to roost. 🐓 ❤️🩷💙 by @spradstagram

She looked back.

Admittedly, she got an eyeful of her godmother and I yelling at each other to stop crying while laughing at each other. YOU HAD ONE JOB, AUNT BECKY. SHEESH.

But she looked back. And then kept walking forward.

She’s so ready for this.

Never did I ever - Jane edition…

.
Never did I ever think I’d be writing rec letters in the hospital cafeteria while Jane has her left knee rebuilt. But here I am, enjoying(?) a moderately decent breakfast burrito and checking the screens for updates on patient 950416. (Kidding. Like I’d be able to remember her patient number. It’s written down in 3 places - none of which I can currently remember.)

So how did we get here, you ask? Great question, and the reason why less than 3% of aspiring dancers actually become professional ballerinas.

Body mechanics - over which they have zero control.

Jane has been plagued with injuries since she started training “seriously” three years ago. A tweaked back and lots of physical therapy. Broken fingers from a handstand than went over. A sore knee and physical therapy. It’s been a whole deal, and through it all she’s remained committed to her goal and rehabbed like it was her job and gone back to the studio. She’s a beautiful dancer. We know it. She knows it. Her teachers at HBA know it, and have advanced her through the ranks despite her being “late” to the serious ballet world.

You know who doesn’t know it?
