Hebrews 13:1-3 says, “Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so some people have entertained angels without knowing it.” Of all the qualities I admired about my mother, her willingness to treat people like they were hers is what always stood out to me. Friends became family and cousins became siblings. There was no problem too big; you could talk to her about anything and feel zero judgement. More than anything I’ll miss the talks, her laugh and that beautiful smile. 31 year old me understands the circle of life, its 13 year old me that can’t understand how we got here so soon. I want you to ask me if we can watch a movie just for you to fall asleep first. I wanna get the Lincoln detailed, pick Remy, Ariel, and Hoggy up and ride through the park with the music as loud as it can go one more time. I want me, you and Amber to stay up playing spades, eating chicken wings, and drinking Big Red. What I would give for it to be me, you, and Billy again.

Mom, thank you for everything. Thank you for this life, thank you for Chizz. You already know how we rock, so you know we haven’t left each others side. Your boy became a man last week, as he stood strong, proud, and delivered your eulogy. Everything about your home going services was intentional. The Bighams came clean in that red for you and of course me and Chizz matched you to the tee. I pray we did you proud, I pray you felt honored. I know that presidential touch from Louisville’s finest had you doing that Miss America wave in heaven.

As my brother and I try to settle into our new normal, I want to thank everyone who attended our mother’s services. On behalf of my grandmother, thank you to those who called, texted, and sent flowers/plants. Family, this is uncharted territory for us. Me and Billy will have 43rd back to the Mecca in no time. In the meantime, play one of her favorite songs and ride. There will never be another.

I am so glad you allowed me & Duke to share you with those who needed you. There is so much that makes sense today. So much I understand now.
