Take Ivy by Shosuke Ishiguro is perhaps one of the greatest archives we have of prep style in its prime. The waspy, elitist period of American sportswear, reserved for the New England youths of Ivy League schools, is a masterclass by the Japanese in studying style, importing it into Japan, and doing it better than we ever could. by @sprezza__

Famed for his fearless attacking of the most demanding climbs, Marco Pantani remains a hero to cycling purists. To those on the outside, Pantani’s signature bandana and Briko sunglasses set him apart as a truly unique character, earning him the nickname ‘Il Pirata’ AKA ‘The Pirate’.

Thick jersey, rubberised buttons and a robust collar. The classic rugby shirt has lived many lives on and off the pitch, spawning countless design references that inform menswear today.

It’s ruggedness and symbolism of the British middle class has seen it adopted by everyone from climbers to musicians and form a core part of the history and offering of brands like Ralph Lauren, Noah and Patagonia.

On the pitch, performance has taken over, leaving the classic shirt solely for the trophy room. Off the pitch, the rugby shirt continues to be a menswear staple, a garment that threads the needle between hardiness, social history and contemporary needs perfectly. by @sprezza__

Been thinking about how Marlboro has been entered into modern History as one of the pioneers of selling the ‘American Dream’.

Marlboro leaned into this American ideal in all their advertising and it’s unsurprising that their merch would follow suit, tapping cultural ideas of masculinity through motor racing, horse riding and the great outdoors.

This rugged, graphic style has spawned a second life some 20-30 years later, becoming some of the most desirable vintage on the market, perhaps in part because of the change in how smoking is now perceived and a human desire to gravitate towards outsiders. by @sprezza__
