From the very first seeds of Sprouts to the program we are today, @alicelouisewaters has nurtured our mission to take root and flourish.

The visionary chef, author, and food activist behind the legendary @chezpanisse helped pioneer the farm-to-table movement and founded the Edible Schoolyard Project, bringing the power of food, gardening, and hands-on learning into youths’ lives.

A @beardfoundation Award winner and recipient of the Presidential National Humanities Medal, Alice has long championed the idea that food can nourish far more than the body: it can build community, open doors, and change futures.

We’re honored to welcome her as an honorary guest at our Powerful Women in Food Gala on November 1 at The Aviary SF, celebrating the people and possibilities that make our work thrive!

Every Fisherman's Pie sold at Dingles Public House (@dingles.sf) during our San Francisco-Oakland Rising Stars Restaurant Week sends $3 to Sprouts Chef Training (@sproutscheftraining), a nonprofit equipping under-resourced San Francisco youth with culinary training and job placement. Chef George Dingle (@chefgeorgedingle) built the pie the traditional way, poaching Scottish salmon (@seafoodfromscotland), cod, and smoked haddock in aromatic milk, then folding them into a fish mornay with leeks, fennel, onions, peas, and Corto olive oil (@corto_olive) before topping it with a rich potato mash. Meet Debbie Zachareas, the “Ferry Godmother” behind Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant (@ferryplazawine) and one of the women shaping our gala’s wine experience this November 1st!

@dzwine has developed some of SF’s most innovative wine programs and was the inaugural recipient of @sanfrancisco.magazine’s Wine Director of the Year award - the only sommelier to have won the honor twice! A longtime champion of Sprouts Chef Training, Debbie brings that same passion to supporting the next generation of Bay Area culinary leaders.
