Been a minute since I shared work from my stories, but I’ve been working on a few things that I’ll be sharing over the next few days from my latest project! I’m hoping I’ll have a bit more time and mental energy to draw again in the next few months. In the meantime, enjoy this sketch of Vengar’s Rest, the cozy inn at the edge of a small, snowy town, and the home of the Kask family (including Juni, whose character art is on my profile). More to come! . . . #artistsoninstagram #fantasyartist #fantasyart #fantasycharacter #fantasy by @spruce_works

Final character in the lineup of main cast members in this latest fantasy project I’ve been cooking up! Once again can’t say much about him but he is closely related to the last two characters I shared from this project. Now that this is done, I think I’ll finally start working on some basic animation skills :)) (For those who are new here, you can find more about the characters from this project, as well as the characters from another series of fantasy novels I’m working on called Starweaver’s Cradle on my profile). . . . #fantasyartist #fantasyart #originalcharacterdesign #fantasycharacter #fantasywriter by @spruce_works

Next in the character lineup for characters in this new series I’m working on! Also can’t say too much about him without it being massive spoilers, but I can say he’s quite closely related to both characters I posted before this (Ruk Stordal and the blond unnamed warrior)! Got one more in this lineup to share later this weekend and then I might take a stab at learning some basic animation skills Characters from this story and from my other fantasy series, Starweaver’s Cradle, are both on my profile so feel free to check it out if you like his design :)) . . . #fantasyartist #fantasycharacter #characterdesign #originalcharacter #fantasywriter by @spruce_works

Next character in this latest book I’m going to start working on! From here on out I probably won’t be sharing too much in regard to names, as that’s quite a huge spoiler, but I’m sure you can assume a decent bit about this character based on his appearance! (and yes, he is supposed to look a decent bit older in the last face) This is a character from my latest project, a currently unnamed fantasy series. Characters from another project, Starweaver’s Cradle, are also shared on my profile. . . . #fantasyart #fantasycharacter #originalcharacterdesign #fantasybook #fantasywriter by @spruce_works

Next character on the docket for this new project: Ruk Stordal! Ruk is as he looks - the kind of character who tends to keep his distance from others, but for very good reason. That’s not to say he’s cruel or unkind (quite the opposite, as I have a bit of a distaste towards writing love interests who are unnecessarily nasty). He’ll shine a bit more on his own in later books I have planned for this world, but I’m still excited to explore him in this next project :)) Ruk is one of a few characters in a new, currently unnamed book I’ll be working on soon. You can find other characters from that story, as well as characters from my other project on my profile . . . #fantasyart #originalcharacter #fantasycharacter #fantasybooks #fantasywriter by @spruce_works

Been a minute since my last post - work has been kicking my butt and I got majorly distracted with an idea for another project. I was going to draw more of the characters from Starweaver’s Cradle, but this new idea has been absolutely consuming me, so I’ll be sharing some characters from that for a bit :)) This is Junivar Kask, our main character in this new project. Still fleshing out backstory and a couple other details, but I’m pretty happy with her concept design so far. My next few posts will probably be characters from this new project, but after that it’ll be a mix of Starweaver’s and this - just depending on what I’m fixated on at the moment. More to come soon :)) . . . #fantasyart #fantasycharacter #originalcharacter #fantasywriter fantasybooks by @spruce_works

To round out the last of the main six—Safa! Safa is the last of six major protagonists in the series I’m currently working on, Starweaver’s Cradle. Although he’s unpowered (unlike Saja, Rika, Runia, and Cal) and has no political influence (unlike Zayl), he probably has the greatest strength of character amongst the six, and is definitely the steadfast heart of the group. I’ll be taking a break for a few days, and then get back on drawing and sharing a bunch of the secondary characters, plus important characters from other eras in this series. Might also start learning some animation, although that’s a whole separate beast :)) . . . #fantasyart #fantasycharacter #fantasybooks #fantasywriter #originalcharacter by @spruce_works

Next up for the boys: Cal! Cal is my sweet, wet rat. He’s small, quiet, and unassuming, all traits that lend themselves perfectly to the career he’s accidentally fallen into: smuggling people out of a nation that would otherwise seek to entrap and subjugate them. Don’t mistake his good deeds for a heart of gold, though. His only interest lies in the benefits he can reap for himself. The last picture is one I did of him last winter. Not 100% sure if I improved, but I’ve definitely gotten more experimental with backgrounds! Cal is the fifth out of six protagonists in the fantasy series I’m currently drafting, Starweaver’s Cradle. More character art is posted on my profile :) . . . #fantasycharacter #fantasybooks #fantasywriter #characterdesign #originalcharacter by @spruce_works

Finally on to the boys, and first up is our Rose Prince, Zayl 🥀💚 Zayl is the fourth of six protagonists in the draft of my novel, Starweaver’s Cradle. He’s an absolute delight to write, although sometimes difficult since he’s far more eloquent and clever than I am. If love is the death of duty, the exact opposite is true for Zayl. . . . #fantasybook #fantasyart #fantasycharacter #originalcharacter #characterdesign by @spruce_works

Finally back to drawing book characters after a case of burnout, an inflamed tendon, a trip to the doctor, and a splinted arm :) Meet Runia Karhakel, a refugee medic gone rogue when a chance encounter with a banned book sends her down a path of attaining an ancient and forbidden power. Runia is the third of the six major protagonists in the current era of my fantasy draft series, Starweaver’s Cradle. . . . #fantasyart #fantasybooks #fantasyauthor #originalcharacter characterdesigns by @spruce_works

Finally finished drawing my favorite problem child, Rika 🔥⭐️ Rika is one of six major protagonists from my current work-in-progress fantasy series, Starweaver’s Cradle. She’s fierce and impulsive, traits that both land her in and save her from trouble, and although she does have abilities from the magic system of this world, her weapon of choice is her beloved tungsten-lined mace. More to come soon! . . . #fantasycharacter #fantasybook #originalcharacter #fantasyart #characterdesigns by @spruce_works

Saja from my current draft project, Starweaver’s Cradle ❄️⭐️ Planning on posting more of the characters in these stories (about 25 or so pieces altogether) but it feels fitting to start with Saja, since she’s the first you meet in the series . . . #characterdesign #fantasyart #fantasybooks #storytelling #originalcharacter by @spruce_works
