SQPA is marking 50 years of service to Southeast Queens.
We’re proud to share the story of how Roy Wilkins Park grew from a former naval hospital into a community hub for youth development, culture, wellness, and leadership.

For five decades, SQPA has been the only Black-run human service organization stewarding a public park campus in New York City. This anniversary year, we honor the people and history that shaped us, and we look ahead to a full calendar of celebrations leading up to our 50th Anniversary Gala in September 2026 at Roy Wilkins Park.

Watch the video above and join us as we celebrate the past and build the next fifty years of SQPA.

Fifty years of stewardship, and it shows. 🌿

Deep gratitude to the elected officials who joined SQPA to celebrate Roy Wilkins Park’s 50th Anniversary and recognize five decades of service to Southeast Queens:

Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and Congressman Gregory Meeks — thank you for honoring this milestone and standing with our community.

And to Deputy Speaker Nantasha Williams @cmnantashawilliams— thank you doesn’t feel like enough. Your partnership has been a driving force behind SQPA’s growth, and this proclamation is a reflection of your continued belief in this park, this community, and this work. We are endlessly grateful for you.

Here’s to the next 50 years. 💚

SQPA DAY 2026 ———Celebrating 50 Years of SQPA!————

Every year, SQPA Day brings all six of our programs, our families, our young people, our staff, and our community together as ONE.

But this year means just a little more.

In 2026, we celebrate 50 YEARS of SQPA—50 years of serving Southeast Queens, creating opportunities for generations of young people, strengthening families, and building community right here at Roy Wilkins Park.

Today we celebrate the people who built this legacy, the community that continues to support it, and the next generation who will carry it forward.

6 Programs. 1 Community. 50 Years. ONE SQPA. 💚
