Cheong Fun w Prawns ($5).

Soft, thin, almost transparent. The Cheong Fun is chopstick tender.
The prawns are fresh, crunchy & succulent.

Found a Hong Kong Cheong Fun stall in Golden Mile Food Centre

The Cheong Fun is made freshly upon order.

Almost feel like in HK until some lady sweared in Hokkien.

Steamed fish head in preserved black bean sauce

Trying to find a regular tze char stall in Chinatown as my regular stall had folded because the chef left the owner hanging in the air.

Fish is good, pork lard is crispy.

Lacking in details like the missing of scallions or coriander. The fish looks naked.

Next.

For the first time, the community-led organisation is taking its work into a café-style pop-up, bringing together traditional Orang Pulau cuisine w a community gallery that explores Singapore’s Indigenous coastal cultural heritage.

From 23 October to 22 December 2026, Orang Laut SG is taking over Chef X for its first-ever café-style pop-up named Terumbu (which translates to “coral reefs”), bringing the cultural heritage of Singapore’s Southern Islands into a contemporary, two-month dining experience.

Alongside a community gallery, the pop-up also features a Southern Islander menu that invites diners to discover the stories & traditions behind the food.

Founded by fourth-generation Orang Pulau & Orang Laut (people of the sea) Firdaus Sani, Orang Laut SG is a non-profit organisation that works w Indigenous coastal communities from Singapore’s Southern Islands & beyond.

What began as an effort to celebrate & document his family’s memories & cuisine on Pulau Semakau has since grown into a wider community-led initiative to support & empower their community through research & documentation, education, cultural programmes & community-led initiatives.

At Chef X, their heritage unfolds through Terumbu’s menu.

It features family recipes from former Pulau Semakau islanders: Firdaus’ mother & aunt, Mdm Nooraini & Mdm Rohaini – whose cooking was shaped by life on the island & its surrounding ecosystems – including making full use of the day’s catch & adapting dishes according to what was available.

Guided by the family philosophy of “ikut hati kau” (which translates to “follow your heart”), recipes were also passed down not through fixed measurements, but through taste & experience.

At Terumbu, the menu features The Pulau Bowl & Bubur Lambuk Tenggiri, alongside traditional desserts such as Kueh Koleh-Koleh & Kueh Puteri Salat, as well as drinks.
