Happy Father’s Day, Gus.

Your Knicks finally won a championship again. A year before my prediction that you said was crazy back in 2013. Wish you were here to see it.

Staceleh

An explanation for the song choice: Still The One by Orleans is a song we always sang together when I was little.

He called me up one time from Florida when I was working at NBC and said, “Stace, listen!” And he played it for me. Years later, I played it for him while he was dying in the hospital, after he had suffered catastrophic and irreversible brain damage and his heart rate went up. He heard it.

Sometimes I can listen to it and be fine. Other times, I lose it completely.

Grief is strange. Dad will be gone 12 years in October and in some ways it feels like yesterday and in others it feels like 30 years ago.

I still feel his loss. I always will. Some days it’s easier and other days it feels like it just happened.

If you’re lucky enough to still have your dad in your life, please give him a hug if you can. I’d give anything for one more with mine.
