Meet Dr. Janey Lowes, a British veterinarian taking on an incredible challenge across Sri Lanka running from Point Pedro in the north to Dondra in the south to raise funds for street dogs.

Her goal? Raise US$2 million to build a dedicated veterinary hospital, rehabilitation centre and training facility to help sick and injured street dogs.

But this journey is about more than running. During the challenge, Janey stopped to treat a street dog suffering from severe skin disease, showing why she refuses to ignore animals in need.

On her first day, she counted 83 street dogs in just 25 kilometres.

Her mission is a reminder that sometimes, changing lives starts with one person refusing to look away. ❤️

Would you support someone taking on this challenge for Sri Lanka's street dogs?

Forget everything you thought a car could do. Tesla has unveiled its next-generation Roadster, and the demonstration looked like something straight out of a video game.

🔥 It drove upside down on a curved ramp.
🚀 It launched into the air and performed a mid-air flip.
🤯 It pulled off a kickflip over a lineup of vehicles then landed.

The secret? SpaceX-inspired cold-gas thrusters and a suction system designed to help the car perform these extreme manoeuvres.

Tesla says production is planned for 2028, but these jaw-dropping demonstrations were performed by prototypes. The flying features are associated with the special Rocket version, and the final production capabilities remain to be confirmed.

Are we witnessing the future of cars, or has Elon Musk gone too far? 👀

Indonesia’s Bali province has introduced a temporary work-from-home (WFH) arrangement from October 15–17, 2026, as authorities work to ease fuel queues and speed up fuel distribution.

The move aims to reduce vehicle traffic around petrol stations, helping fuel deliveries reach stations more efficiently. Schools and universities in Bali have also been directed to shift to online learning during the same period, with essential public services exempted from normal office arrangements.

The decision comes amid wider concerns about global energy supply and fuel costs.

Could more countries turn to work from home policies to save fuel?

One of the world's biggest photography companies is facing a major financial shake up.

Getty Images has announced plans to enter Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring and return to private ownership after mounting debt, a failed merger with Shutterstock, and growing competition from AI-generated imagery.

The restructuring deal includes up to $533 million in new equity from the Getty family and Koch Equity Development, alongside plans to reduce the company's debt.

Getty says its operations will continue as normal during the process with no anticipated disruption to customers, contributors or employees.

Is AI changing the future of photography faster than traditional image companies can adapt?

Sri Lanka's health experts are raising concerns over the rising number of HIV infections with unprotected sexual contact between men identified as a major transmission factor.

According to a report published on 14 October, experts also highlighted rising cases of other sexually transmitted infections, including syphilis and hepatitis B, and called for stronger prevention and awareness programmes.

Health officials stress that HIV can affect anyone. Testing, prevention and timely treatment are essential, and people living with HIV can lead healthy lives with appropriate medical care.

Source: Newswire | Daily Mirror

Read the full article: https://www.newswire.lk/2026/10/14/male-to-male-sexual-contact-a-major-factor-in-rising-hiv-cases-in-sri-lanka/

The specific pattern refers to the epidemiological data showing that, in certain populations and contexts, HIV transmission occurs more frequently through male-to-male sexual contact. That does not mean it is the only route of transmission or that being part of any group determines an individual's risk. HIV can be transmitted through anal or vaginal sex, sharing contaminated needles, and from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. The key distinction is between identifying a transmission pattern in population data and claiming that one group is the sole driver of transmission. One is an epidemiological observation; the other is a misrepresentation.

P.s: Please take HIV prevention seriously. Always use condoms correctly, get tested regularly, and consider PrEP if you may be at risk. Never share needles, and seek medical advice promptly if you think you’ve been exposed to HIV, as PEP must be started within 72 hours. HIV can affect anyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Protect yourself, protect your partners, get tested, and take action to prevent HIV.
