Rivision Refresh is my new series where, give other famous or ubiquitous brands a bit of a face lift. @expedia is one of the largest travel booking sites in the world, but using their app feel dreadful at times. Maybe that’s just the experience and that can’t be helped, but the brand identity and UI of their app aren’t helping either. Perhaps the act of booking on the site and app will always be cut and dry, and to the point. But the visual aspect doesn’t have to feel so cynical. And in a lot of ways traveling has become just that. Very cynical and very clinical. Just pick your place, how you get there, pay up and be on you’re way. I have thought that our experience with travel begins at booking. My brand refresh for Expedia, is largely inspired by the golden age of travel—around the 1950’s and 1960’s. Images of the iconic space-age inspired Encounter Restaurant at LAX or JFK’s TWA Terminal come to mind. A sense of wonder and excitement was physically embedded in those spaces. They were a portal and they said to their visitor’s: Beyond this threshold, you embark onto new places. New horizons. The tagline “You’re Almost There” speaks to our anticipation for relief, escape, and adventure when we travel. What other brands would you like to see refreshed? by @srthomasleonard

I’ve had this figure in my head for years. I first sketched her about 5 years ago… I don’t know who she is. Maybe I was an Andalusian gypsy in a past life—A lover from that past life, even. Or perhaps she’s the personification of an amalgamation of things I desire and admire. Who knows. But I think I’d like to paint her at some point. Still working it out on paper. by @srthomasleonard
