Old Sumatra, re-archived for the @saptodjojokartiko Heritage 2027 runway.

During the discussion with Mas Sapto about the beauty direction, we wanna look back to the unfiltered, quiet grace of Acehnese and Minang women—long before modern cosmetic perfection came into play. We wanted to capture how heritage was worn naturally, as an effortless extension of daily life and identity.

The eyes and brows are defined with raw charcoal (arang) in direct, sweeping strokes—a nod to the deep South Asian trade routes that permanently shaped the aesthetic landscape of Aceh to this day. The bold eyebrow shape is an ode for Aceh’s female national heroes. It’s an intentional choice to represent their unyielding strength, resilience, and command, balanced by a smudged kohl finish that keeps the look grounded and soulful.

For the lips, we turned to the NGINANG ritual of Padang. Instead of a sharp, structured lip contour, a deep purple-tinted crimson is pressed softly into the skin, echoing the organic, lived-in stain left behind by betel nut and gambier.
Set against fresh, bare skin look, me personally wanted to portray contrasts: raw texture against soft diffusion, quiet strength against effortless elegance.
