September 15th is independence day for a multitude of Central American countries. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua all share national birthdays, exulting the distinct heritage of each country with colorful celebrations throughout the region and in the diaspora. But these festivities also create a fantastic opportunity to spotlight music from a continental stretch rarely covered in the media.

From Salvadoran K-pop to Nicaraguan emo, and a jolt of Mayan rap out of Guatemala, we’ve put together a list of must-know rising stars. And just because Panama and Belize had different journeys to sovereignty, it doesn’t mean we’re leaving them out in the cold. So keep swiping and tune your radar to Central America’s amazing and diverse musical landscape.
