Creatives understand that even though our field may face scepticism, we possess a superpower – we are architects of change, inventors, builders, and problem-solvers shaping the very world we inhabit because
we. see .things before. they come into existence
Embrace your uniqueness, for every superhero has a distinct custom-fit, tailored to their creative abilities.

Together, we can BUILD a future where innovation and creativity become the driving force behind Africa’s transformation. taken in African Leadership Academy by @ssanyusematimba

I just realised something…
I do a lot of things — but I’ve never really introduced myself properly 🤍

So, hi. I’m Ssanyu.

I work across creative leadership, education, culture, festivals, and building platforms that centre African stories, young people, and big visions for the continent.

This year, I’m using this space a little more intentionally — to document the journey, the work, the chaos, the beauty, and the moments in between. The building, not just the highlights.

If you care about:
✨ African creativity
✨ Youth + leadership
✨ Culture as power
✨ Impact that actually means something

Then you’re in the right place.
Come along — we’re building.

Africa has creativity in abundance. Turning that creativity into careers, businesses and institutions requires education, mentorship, networks and access.

@ssanyusematimba is a Ugandan-born, South Africa-raised creative leader, designer and educator. She is Head of Creative Arts & Events at @alacademy and a lecturer at @greensidedesign. She founded Afrikan Collective, a platform connecting emerging African creatives with the knowledge, mentorship and opportunities to build sustainable creative futures. Her work has been recognised by Design Indaba, the @gatesfoundation Foundation Goalkeepers community and the @worlddesignorg.

At ACEL 2026, Ssanyu moderates conversations across the programme, drawing together perspectives from policy, investment, enterprise and creative practice.

Because the next generation of African creative leadership is being built now, in classrooms, studios and networks across the continent.

Happy World Teachers’ Day.

This year’s theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” feels particularly important.

Someone taught the doctor.
Someone taught the artist.
Someone taught the entrepreneur.
Someone taught the leader.
And someone taught the teacher.

We are all downstream from a teacher.

So today, I hope we do more than celebrate teachers. I hope we think seriously about how we value, support, compensate and protect the people helping to shape our future.

Teachers are development infrastructure.

Happy World Teachers’ Day to everyone doing this beautiful, difficult and deeply important work.

Ssanyu Sematimba runs the Creative Arts department at the African Leadership Academy. She brought Ozor in to work with her students.

Some of those students were not planning to pursue music. After meeting him, they changed their minds.

"He didn't want to gatekeep. He imparted his knowledge and wisdom in the future generation of creatives."

Not because of the music alone. Because of how he carried himself. Because of how he communicated. by @ssanyusematimba

Happy Birthday to the best brother in the world.

Growing up, I always wanted a brother, and somehow I was lucky enough to get the very best one. Thank you for being my protector, my friend, and one of the greatest gifts in my life.

Thank you for the memories, the laughter, the lessons, and the love. I am so grateful for you and the bond we share.

Wishing you a year filled with joy, purpose, success, and everything your heart desires.

Love you always. ❤️ by @ssanyusematimba
