SHIBAS CAN'T BE OFF LEASH! If I had a nickel for everytime someone told me Shibas were impossible to train I would've adopted 1000 dogs on a 500 acre estate by now 😂 The more "difficult" and "stubborn" breeds are extremely smart. They have an independent mindset and will challenge you but consistency is key here! Akari has been off leash since 8 months old and when I tell people that recall is the last thing on my list for off leash dogs, they're so surprised. There's so much more to off leash reliability than a good Recall. Food refusal, neutrality to people, dogs, wildlife, these are just to name a few. Without these skills, you'd be calling your dog every 10 seconds. What's your biggest challenge with off leash adventures? #sshcanineacademy #dogtrainer #dogtraining #shibatraining #offleash #offleashlife #shibasoftoronto #redshiba #shibainu #shibe #shibagram #doge #trails #shibasofinstagram #darnsquirrels #freedom #enjoyinglife by @ssh.canineacademy
Wow! What an amazing experience this weekend with @woofstock We had so much fun meeting new people and doing a behavior and obedience segment in the @chewy_canada arena! I am grateful for the opportunity. It was also a blast being on @cp24breakfast with @jeeyuntv Her dog Zeppelin was awesome and had the best doggie beard I've seen 😂😍 Great time with even greater people! No wonder this is the largest dog festival in North America. The vibes were unmatched ♡♡ Thank you @woofstock for having me as a performer and exhibitor! Excited to see what's in store for next year! . . . . . #woofstock #woofstock2024 #sshcanineacademy #dogfestival #woodbinebeach #comeback #cp24 #breakfasttelevision #livetv #bullyadvocate by @ssh.canineacademy

Heres to another trip around the sun. I turned 31 today and I'm so grateful for all the milestones I've reached and the support from all the wonderful people I met along the way. In my 31 years of existence I learned so much. Here are the 3 things I live by now: 1. Find something you love to do and you'll never work a day of your life. This was the cheesiest thing I used to hear and never thought it would be true. I appreciate everyone that has ever supported me and made my dreams come true 🫶 2. Make time for your health or you'll be forced to My first 2 years were really tough. 18 hour days, no sleep, no regular meals. These things will burn you and make you sick. Prioritize your health it will pay you back 10 fold. 3. Life is short! I've lost people in my life much too early. You never know when your last day is. Its important to plan for the future but dont forget about today! Take some time out of your day and really enjoy that walk, coffee, or meal. Life gets busy so make the time to take everything in. If youve made it this far thanks for sticking by! I love you guys. You make everything possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️ #birthday #imoldnow #oldlady by @ssh.canineacademy

Episode 2 of our Can Old Dogs Learn New Tricks series! It's our first time working on Bow. All together we did, 51 reps over the course of 6.5 mins. The goal of this series is to showcase what's possible with only 5-10 minutes a day. Stay tuned for our next episode: Bow Session 2 #series #shibainu #dogtrainer #tricktraining #positivereinforcementtraining by @ssh.canineacademy
We've all heard it before, old dogs can't learn new tricks! In this new series we'll be busting some myths by teaching Akari some new tricks! I am NOT a trick trainer so I'll be starting from scratch just like you would. We'll be counting reps and seeing if old dogs CAN learn new tricks and how long it takes ☺️ Follow along to see her journey ♡ #seniordog #dogtrainer #clickertraining #sshcanineacademy #shibainu by @ssh.canineacademy
🚨 HOW TO CREATE RESOURCE GUARDING IN YOUR DOG 🚨 Want your dog to be possessive over food, toys, and random garbage they find on the sidewalk? Follow these simple steps: 1) Constantly take things away from them for no reason 2) Chase them around the house every time they pick something up 3) Stick your hands or face into their food bowl while theyre eating 4) Punish every growl so they skip the warnings and go straight to bite 5) Never teach them that humans approaching their stuff is actually a good thing Congratulations! You're well on your way to creating a dog that feels the need to protect their valuables :) Have questions about resource guarding? 🚨 Looking for tips and tricks that will stop your dog's reactivity? Trust me if it existed every dog trainer would be out of a job 😅 Today's fast paced world LOVES quick fixes: "Turn this way" "Say this word" "Use this tool" "Try this hack" But reactivity isn't a training problem you solve with a single tip. Two reactive dogs can look identical on a walk and need completely different training plans. Thats why random tips from Tiktok, YouTube, and Instagram leave pet parents feeling stuck. The information isnt bad, it could just not be for YOUR dog. Real progress comes from understanding what's driving the behavior and creating a plan that addresses the root cause. The good news? Reactivity can improve. The bad news? It usually takes more than a 30 second reel. What's the biggest challenge you face with your reactive dog? #dogtrainer #dogtrainerlife #dogreactivity #reactivitytraining #dogtips by @ssh.canineacademy
STORYTIME! Lots of people don't know that I used to be really shy. Presenting in front of my class would send my heart into a frenzy and I would rather get a big fat F and disappoint my parents than go up and present in front of my peers. Living in a modern age has its challenges. When I started training dogs I never knew that content creation was going to become a part of that deal. Putting yourself out there is difficult and I feel like Im getting over that same feeling as I did back then to come out of my shell. Even though its only online and feels pretty silly 😅 Lately Ive been posting every day and broke my 2 week streak this weekend while working Barkham. The event took all day but Kubo was actually brought to the hospital on Thursday early in the morning. He just had his first day feeling back to his normal self today. I guess my question for all my content creator peeps, how do you keep up with posting daily? - Your friendly neighborhood digital dinosaur #feelingvulnerable #dogtrainer #howtoinstagram #pleasehelpme #digitaldinosaur by @ssh.canineacademy
Barkham Day 1 Complete! Thank you to all of my wonderful students for dropping by and new friends that came to have a good chat about dogs ♡ It was boiling hot today but looking forward to seeing everyone again for day 2! Everybody loved our cooling station and getting some nice mist and fanning lol See you all again tomorrow ♡ #barkham #markhamdogalliance #dogtraining #dogtrainer #doglover by @ssh.canineacademy
☀️ HEAT STROKE CAN HAPPEN FASTER THAN YOU THINK ☀️ Every summer, we see well-meaning dog owners accidentally put their dogs at risk because they don't recognize the early warning signs of overheating. Heat stroke isn't just a "hot dog" problem. It can become a life-threatening emergency in minutes. 🚨 Signs to watch for: - Excessive panting - Thick drool - Bright red gums - Weakness or stumbling - Vomiting or diarrhea - Confusion or disorientation - Collapse Remember: if the pavement is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your dog's paws. Short walks, plenty of water, access to shade, and avoiding peak heat hours can make all the difference. Some dogs are at even greater risk, including puppies, seniors, overweight dogs, and flat-faced breeds. If you suspect your dog is suffering from heat stroke: ❄️ Move them to a cool area immediately 💧 Offer small amounts of water 🧊 Use cool (not ice-cold) water on their body 🏥 Contact your veterinarian right away A few extra precautions today can prevent a medical emergency tomorrow. Stay safe, stay cool, and give your dog the summer they deserve. 🐾 #heatstroke #caninefirstaid #dogtraining #dogtips #dogmemes by @ssh.canineacademy
