Still Life #4 is complete…finally!

And it was a labor of love to say the least. We’ve all had those projects that were, for various reasons, a challenge to get to the finish line. A few new elements were added from the original sketch but it’s finished, I am now reenergized and ready to move on to the next project. So,stay tuned!

Still Life #4 was a working title and it has been changed to “Potted Pointy Plants” (Who doesn’t love an alliteration?) by @sshellenbergermakingart

Work lately has been slow mainly because of “life” and the sweltering heat. Here in central Texas the temperature has been in the low 100’s. And because my garage/shop has no ventilation, it tends to feel hotter. But progress continues to be made.

Hang in there with me we are nearing the end of the hand sanding phase and are getting ready to add COLOR!.

Exciting stuff - right? by @sshellenbergermakingart

Work on the third plant in this still life has begun. I made a design change and instead leaving the leaf edges straight and smooth, I decided to add some “pointy” elements instead. I like the way they turned out.

Stick around till the end of this video and you can see how all the elements come together. (I didn’t add the top section of the vine leaves as well as the “thorns” on the cactus. But you will get an idea of where I’m headed with this project.)

Thanks for following me and watching this video. Your support is always appreciated.

Take care - till next time. by @sshellenbergermakingart

While the cacti are “presentable” there is still a ton of sanding and finishing to do on them. I know you will breath a sigh of relief to learn that I will not share that gruesome part of the process with you.

In the next video I will start working on the set of large leaves.

Until then, stay safe and healthy! by @sshellenbergermakingart

In this video I am working on the small leaves that were introduced in the first video. I wanted to add some personality to their plain flat shapes. I cut them in half and then reduced the top half’s size while retaining the leaf’s original shape. The two pieces will reunite in the final assembly. This will allow me to easily add different colors, textures and also create more visual interest.

And as we all know, it’s all about VISUAL INTEREST

STAY TUNED… more to come.

HAPPY DANCE!

The shapes are doing a happy dance because all those that needed contouring have been contoured. And all the shapes have been thoroughly sanded and are ready for a coat on gesso and a wash of red oxide after which they can be painted. Can you feel their anticipation and excitement??!! by @sshellenbergermakingart
