ā€œMom, why are you crying?ā€

Six years ago, during one of the craziest periods of life (PS, it doesn’t seem to have resolved yet, amirite?) we were blessed with our rainbow baby.

In the midst of a global pandemic, pregnancy loss, an earthquake, temporary job loss, and everything else 2020 was handing us, we also received a gift unlike any other.

And while she came much earlier than expected, she was right on time. *Cue Ashanti*

While I’ve been kicking and screaming as we approach this day, she could not be more excited. My biggest hope is that she keeps that excitement. That she stays joyful, curious, and enthusiastic about expanding her horizons, and that the inevitable hard things give her the resilience she’s going to need to conquer what’s next.

Here’s to Kindergarten.

And yes, this sounds like an overly dramatic LinkedIn post. Sue me (Don’t actually, please. I’m really busy right now). by @sspro_ginnir

Picture this. 2018. Seattle. The Gum Wall. My first leadership retreat, only two weeks into my new role. And of course, a breast pump in tow.

Talk about an interesting introduction to your new coworkers. (S/O to everyone who let me store breast milk in their freezers.)

As I celebrate my work-iversary 8 years later, I can't look at this photo without smiling. (We were supposed to be dressed like tourists, so don't judge me).

I've now been with Salon Services PRO for exactly as long as I've been a mother. This era of my life has known no other environment. Motherhood and my career have run side by side, each shaping the other in ways I never could have anticipated.

So today, I'd like to say thank you.

To my husband, who has supported this journey x100. To the incredible nannies who loved my babies. To my family and friends. Sometimes adults need villages too, and mine is irreplaceable.

To bosses who believed in little ol' me. To coworkers who became lifelong friends. To mentors who challenged me. To clients who welcomed me into their businesses. To the wins that reminded me why I love this work. To the failures that, quite frankly, sucked but became some of my greatest teachers.

My kids have grown up here. They know my people by name (and love jumping on Teams to show them their latest knickknack). They can identify more beauty products than most adults (their taste is impeccable). They know that when mom starts recording a voice text, everyone stops talking. They've seen work trips, late nights, hard days, and the kind of gut-belly laughs that only happen when you genuinely love the people you work with.

Work can be demanding, stressful, unfair, and overwhelming. It is also an incredible privilege.

One day, I hope they'll understand that every mile, every meeting, every challenge, every opportunity, and every unforgettable experience has always been because of them and for them. I also hope they'll know none of it happened alone. Every opportunity rested on someone else's willingness to believe in me, encourage me, or care for the people I love most.

And for that privilege, and for every person who's been part of this journey, gracias. by @sspro_ginnir

When your kid is numerous decades younger than you, but only a few inches shorter than you šŸ™„

This girl is EVERYTHING the world needs right now. Smart, curious, compassionate, conscious, brave and a sign that while we’re royally messing up (I use ā€œwe’reā€ loosely), the kids are alright āœŠšŸ¼

Last night we gathered, past and present members of the Salon O crew, to celebrate 20 years of this special place. Salon O was my first home in this industry, and somehow, this team agreed to adopt me, RBF and all. It’s where I learned the ropes, discovered what this beautiful industry is about… and also, unexpectedly discovered I have feelings. Yikes.

In honor of Salon O’s 20th anniversary, here are 20 lessons I learned, albeit haven’t perfected, while being a part of this wild, wise, fiercely capable team.

Ps…these photos were taken 13 years apart šŸ‘€

	1.	Don’t take things personally. Most of the time, it’s not about you. Really.
	2.	Own your sh*t.
	3.	Integrity isn’t optional.
	4.	Kindness costs nothing.
	5.	Spoiler alert: It’s not up to us.
	6.	Surrender isn’t weakness.
	7.	You can be the test or the safe haven. Choose wisely.
	8.	Nothing lasts forever. That includes the bangs.
	9.	Pay it forward. Always.
	10.	Leave things (and people) better than you found them.
	11.	Surround yourself with smart people. Then listen to them.
	12.	Laugh at yourself. Often. Loudly. Publicly.
	13.	Not everyone will or has to like you.
	14.	Share your opportunities like good gossip.
	15.	There’s room for all of us.
	16.	Listen to women. Love them. Support the hell out of them.
	17.	Work like you own the place. Even if your name’s not on the lease.
	18.	Words matter.
	19.	No one exits childhood unscathed. Handle each other gently.
	20.	Not everyone will do what you’d do, but if it feels right, do it anyway.

Gracias Salon O, especially @faleciathefabulous. I hope last night was a testament to what matters after the dust settles. by @sspro_ginnir

Does anyone else struggle to choose what to post for these recaps? Scrolling through a year of memories, it’s hard to decide šŸ¤”.

This year was so rich. Struggling to choose which fond memories to share isn’t a bad problem to have. But don’t get me wrong—I’m not one for forced positivity. The year came with its own stressors, pressures, and thieves of joy. Still, it would be ungrateful not to acknowledge the wins, which were more than I probably deserve.

To those celebrating—or, like us, not celebrating tonight, with sickness lingering, kids who need their šŸ’¤, and takeout on the way—I wish you beauty, balance, and all the good things life has to offer.

Here’s to finding our way in 2025.

While I am trying to grasp onto every little moment of their young lives - because on some days I wish they could stay small forever - I am vividly aware of the privilege I have to celebrate another year of my children’s lives.

It is not a privilege that is granted to all parents, and I mourn when they mourn, even if I don’t know them. Since becoming a mother, I have developed new fears that I never knew would exist inside of me. Much like many other moms, I feel relief when I see their little chest rise as they sleep, when I pick my daughter up from school and when I wake up knowing they are OK.

This might be too deep for a birthday post, but I challenge us to remember the people we interact daily with are someone’s children, parents, friend, sister, brother…someone’s EVERYTHING.

Imagine if we treated THEIR everything like they were OUR everything. by @sspro_ginnir
