announcing: SUGAR CUBE — a new newspaper of writing for now We publish 6 columns by 6 columnists every 6 months Follow + subscribe for free [link in bio] and for info on our October 15th NYC launch James Barickman’s poem in six parts about serving as a witness at immigration court Max Pearl on the Brooklyn pool hall scene Alexis Nowicki on dressing for the corporate workplace Emily Mester on freezing her eggs Rhian Sasseen on being a writer who works in tech Walker Rutter-Bowman on consuming about town We take inspiration from the tradition of the small-town America newspaper columnist. These holy fools, laymen, and dilettantes reported on and entertained their communities as an act of civic duty. Presently, in the 21st century, “community” is no longer necessarily rooted in place. Instead, a Sugar Cube columnist sends us dispatches with the latest gossip and discord from wherever they have found fellowship, whether it be a corner of the internet, a roving party, or a shared conviction. We understand that individuals are inextricable from their context; the whole is more interesting than its parts. A scene is porous and mutable. What is meaningful today might be, or even should be, trivial tomorrow. We encourage our readers to delight in the ephemerality of notoriety, opinions, and life itself. by @sssugarcccube
